Herefordshire Lookup Requests / Hereford Gaol
« on: Wednesday 27 February 13 22:25 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone can help me with prison records, account of the trial or perhaps even a newspaper report.

I am researching William Pritchard age 16 years who in the 1881 census was in Hereford Gaol.  He was born in Walterstone and lived in Longtown/Clodock.  Would like to find out why he was in prison.  He was out of prison by 1891, married and had one child.

Would be grateful of any help or advice.

Hi again Brian,

It is William Tate Willson, born circa 1809 Chemist and Druggist of Alford who married  Ellen Ritchie and then in 1848 married Ann Atkinson - so he must be a brother to your John Willson born 1811?

Wow !  Thank you  very much for all the information - it was so kind of you to share this with me.

I don't have the funds at present to purchase a subscription to look at the census returns and so have been working on what I could find on the free CEN and also the Family Search 1881 census - so have not unearthed a great deal.

Really surprised by the 1891 census Elizabeth Hannah is still alive and living with her children as on the 1881 census I have found their children all living separately with various members of the family, and had wrongly assumed that Elizabeth had died.  Death entry in the Fbmd index.    I was also struggling as on the various census indexes there are two Joseph Cannings, both around the same age, both born in Duns Tew - one an Ag Lab and the other a wheelwright.

Oh! how we all love family history!!!!

Again, many, many thanks for the time and effort taken to send me all the info.

Was wondering if anyone could help with my research on Joseph Beasley Canning born circa 1843 I believe to Jane Canning in Duns Tew, Oxfordshire.

Jane went on to marry Richard Weston Simkins and Joseph Beasley Canning married an Elizth. Hannah Woolams.  Elizabeth died in 1870 and Joseph ended up in South Wales and married an Ellen Wixey in 1884.

Grateful for any help.

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Re: Jane Flintoff b. 1849 Lesbury

Hi Kooky,

I am researching Jane Flintoff's brother, Walter born 1851.  Are you related to this family?

Walter moved to Cardiff, Wales and I also see that there is another Flintoff from Lesbury in Newport, also a carpenter/joiner, his name was James born circa 1846.

Regards,
Linda

Hi Brian,

I too am researching Willson of Alford via William Tate Willson and his child by Mary Ann Wydell - namely Henry Wilson Wydell.  Are you related to this Willson family?
