Hi Sarah
I have just had occasion to look for Hope St, Reading as an ancestor was there on the 1861 census. Looking at the other nearby streets on the census return there are Upper Hosier St, Soho St, Howard St. I have found a Victorian map (relevant extract attached) which shows the area prior to its eventual demolition. Whilst it does not specifically detail Hope St it does show the other named streets and therefore gives a general idea of the area. Regards Ray

Thats brilliant thanks Sue
Incidentally since your previous response I think I have located James and Eliza in Felsted in 1841 with children Charles, Ann and Fanny am working to follow them through the remaining census's. Interesting that Richard is a witness with I guess Eliza's sister/mother ? another little nugget.
Thanks
Ray

Hi Sue
Thanks for your response - I am aware of James who I believe to be Richards sibling as Richard & James both have children baptised on the same day in Nov 1833 at Bocking non-conformist. James and his wife Elizabeth baptise their daughter Ann - Interestingly one of the other witnesses to Richards marriage to Charlotte was an Elizabeth Wright - it is my best guess at the moment that James married Elizabeth Wright.

Unfortunately I have pretty much drawn a blank trying to follow up James and Elizabeth through census/IGI etc and therefore working back that way to Richard - all I know is that James daughter Ann turns up living with Richard on the 1851 census but no trace of her in 1841, she then disappears again. All very frustrating !!
Thanks anyway though
Regards
Ray

Hi
I am new to Rootschat so apologies if I am posting this in the wrong place.

My 3 x Great Grandfather is Richard Harrington who according to all the census records was born in Bocking circa 1807 and despite much research I have been unable to locate his birth/baptism. He married Charlotte Rayner on 13 Nov 1827 at St Michael The Archangel Church, Braintree and they went on to have 10 children between 1828 and 1848. The first of which William was baptised in the Parish of Felsted as opposed to Bocking. I have identified all their baptism records and all were non-conformist records yet can find no trace of Richard.

I would be very grateful to anyone who can help me to locate his birth/baptism and the identity of his parents.
Thanks
Ray
