Canada Lookup Request / Re: DUNSMORE - James and Clara Ellen
« on: Saturday 24 August 19 14:44 BST (UK)  »
Albert P Dunsmore did not emigrate to Canada at the same time as his family.   In the 1881 census he was in Devon with John Isaac Parker and his wife Elizabeth.  The census record indicates that he was John's grandson.
It took me a while to work out how this could be possible but I think the story goes like this:
1. Elizabeth Palfrey was born about 1836 in Dunster, Somerset daughter of William Palfrey, farmer.
2. In the March quarter of 1854 she married Thomas Townsend, son of Henry, a farmer.  Registered at Williton, Somerset.
3. Clara Ellen Townsend was baptised on 18 Aug 1854 to Thomas Townsend, Timbescombe (near Dunster), miller and Elizabeth his wife.
4. I don't know what became of Thomas, but Elizabeth Townsend married John Isaac Parker in the March quarter of 1871.  Registered in London.
5. Clara Ellen Townsend married James Dunsmore in Devon in June quarter of 1875.
6. Albert Peter Parker Dunmore was born in Devon in the June quarter of 1876, mother Townsend.
7. John Parker died in 1882, after which I can find no further record in England of Elizabeth or Albert.

So there is little doubt that Elizabeth Palfrey/Townsend/Parker was Albert's grandmother but could John Parker have been his grandfather, as stated in the census?   Maybe.  Albert was clearly conceived before Thomas and Elizabeth married and it is just possible that John Parker was already on the scene.  A good use for a DNA test, especially if Albert has male-line descendants.

Hello Greg,
I've just seen your post.  We are distantly related and I have quite a lot of information on some of your ancestors.  I did meet Ella Robertson and two of her brothers, one of whom ran a nursery in Paisley.  Are you still interested in this?

Anglesey / Re: LLwydiarth Esgob...Prichard

Hello  Peter (a real viking?).
Thanks for the offer.  Actually you were right the first time - it was Llwydiarth Esgob I was seeking.  However Richard Edwards, whose children all used the name Pritchard lived at Lechog Uchaf so I would welcome that photo.  Do you have others?
I think you do not descend from Robert Pritchard but relate by marriage to one of his grandchildren.  Is that correct?   Have you investigated Robert Pritchard snr's origins at all?

When Richard Rowland's first and illigitimate child was baptised at the end of 1827 he gave is address as Llwdiarth Esgob and occupation as solicitor's clerk.   Thus he would seem to be working for Robert Pritchard.  By 1829 Richard had returned to Amlwch, his birthplace, and applied to be an excise officer indicating that he was "bred an attorney's clerk".
Was there a relationship between Richard and Robert other than employer/employee?   Possibly.   Richards mother was Catherine Edwards or Pritchard, daughter of Richard Edwards, farmer of Lechog, Amlwch.  Can anyone shed light on this?
Also is there a nice photo of the farmhouse somewhere?

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: PARKER - Adderbury 1841

One suspects that Obed would have been mortified to find his son was a wine & spirit dealer.  I believe that John Isaac had no children.   Indeed there is only 1 living descendent (plus his own children) of all of Obeds children.
