Glamorganshire / Re: Griffiths Family in Glamorgan, Wales.
« on: Friday 13 January 23 00:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Barbara it is  a minefield trying to find my Griffiths family But John G was  a master builder and mason an hopefully may fit into your family as his children  all came to live in Wandiligong Victoria Australia about 1857-1867 when Mary his first daughter  married  my ggrandfather Donald Forbes in 1853 Trevethin Pontypool  WALES  and settled there with Marys  sisters and brothers were Sarah 1834, Adeline1836, Marie Louisa 1837 James 1838 and John g 1841 who died four months after Sarahs death  from typhoid in 1842

My gg grandfather John Griffiths circa 1808?-1852 was  listed on the 1851 census for Trevethin, Pontypool Monmouthshire, as born in MANTWILL Glamorgan. I have found a William and Sarah Griffiths as his possible parents from Melincryddan Neath Glamorgan  John G baptized when 10 birth old noted as an 1808 birth All  deaths recorded at St Cardoc's Church Trevethin Pontypool Monmouthshire

John G notes his father was William Griffiths  on his second marriage records to Margaret Harris DAVIES (1801-1880+). He was  firstly married to Sarah Morris circa 1805 who died in 1842 Pontypool possibly born Monmouthshire  maybe to John Morris and Sarah Mysham or similiar

Margaret's johns  second marriage first husband was David Davies 1786-1842 both from MARLYBONE London who had been married to Elizabeth Jones (circa 1786-1838) lived   later ijn Trevethin Monmouthshire .

Margaret and Elizabeth Jones Davies (Abt 1787-1838) David DAVIES 1784-1840  first wife ) were listed as Inn Keeper and David  Davies as Brewer who owned the Three Cranes in Crane St Trevethin Monmouthshire on the 1841 and 1851 census. Davies children were relocated to relatives on David's death in 1840 but not Elizabeth D who was adopted by John Griffiths and Margaret Carolyn Harris, Davies father John Harris was a tailor in London Harris family from Malhilibad or Goytre  Monmouthshire

To complicate things further Margaret Harris Davies Griffiths then married William Phillips in 1865 a wealthy coal miner and land owner and died after him about 1880 step mother to about 30 children with none her own just her stepdaughter Elizabeth davies
Hope this helps live in Melbourne where are you residing  Happy new year Jeanne

Your help is much appreciated I will add them to my family tree. I believe Richard and Margaret Crone his wife should be added to the Peerage Pages given their grandparents who are on it namely Honora Roache c1810-post 1871 and Thomas Crone 1811-1871 Unfortunately there has been a mistake on these pages in attributing Thomas Crone birth to Clutterbuck Crone his brother on these pages I expect  Richard Couche's family should also be added to these pages Does anyone know how I might be able to do this a sthe person to email does not answer my emails

Thankyou  so much for your prompt reply. I did find the will relatives said John was before he died and MARGARET was a good women John Griffiths according to his death records   say he was 47 in 1852 when he died  but I suspect it may have been later too

Sarah Morris his wife died in1842 of Typhoid on ancestry death records she is noted as 37 in 1842 She I think would be buried in buried in St Cadoc's, perhaps in a special part with her son re the disease   Further I wondered if you knew how could possibly obtain  their burial records from St CARDOCS for this couple and wondered if their parents would be noted on these documents

The only records that fit for Sarah Morris Griffiths (George St Trevethin ) birth marriage records and marriage I found are in St Phillips and Jacobs Bristol I wondered  how I might be able to obtain  burial records for St CARDOCS Trevethin as all the family seem to be baptized and buried there and wondered if their parents are generally noted on these documents

I was told that NANTYMOEL did not exist until later unless it was the name of a particular farm in Glamorgan. I will research William and Elizabeth Griffiths as Johns parents and the location that is very helpful information Thankyou

Monmouthshire / John Griffiths (circa 1805-52) Master Mason and Builder Trevethin
« on: Thursday 26 May 22 04:00 BST (UK)  »
John Griffiths 1806-1852 Master Mason and Builder died Trevethin and  was married to MARGARET HARRIS DAVIES (1801-1880+) Previously he was married to Sarah Morris (circa 1805-1842) and had 8 children, who died of Typhoid possible parents john and Mary Elizabeth Morris.

Margaret  Harris Davies Griffiths 39, from Marlybone London,  married  David DAVIES (1786-1842) in 1840 whose former wife was Elizabeth Jones (circa 1789-1838) Trevethin, who with Margaret his second wife,  were noted as Inn keepers and DAVID DAVIES, a Brewer of the Three Cranes in Crane St ,Trevethin Monmouthshire in 1841 census .

Some of David Davies 13 children with his wife Elizabeth  Jones were sent to live with her family in Trevethin but John and Margaret Harris Davies Griffiths adopted Elizabeth Griffiths later. Margaret later married William Phillips about 1865 whose wife had predeceased leaving about 12 children  Margaret Harris despite having no children of her own was step mother to about 30 children

John Griffiths is indicated to be born on 1851 Census to be born in MANTWILL GLAMORGAN but this does not exist so am trying to find out what this place might be. His father was William Griffiths also a builder and possible mason from Glamorgan

His children were all christened in St Cadocs which appears to be overgrown now I suspect he may be buried there and as a mason he probably had made tomb stones for his family and others. Could you help me please me find Sarah MORRIS parents and also JOhn Griffiths parents and where they were born

My gg grandfather was John Griffiths circa 1805-1852 master mason and builder is listed on the 1851 census for Trevethin, Pontypool Monmouthshire, as born in MANTWILL Glamorgan, possibly a transcription error as I cant find it. Notes his father was William Griffiths noted on his second marriage to Margaret Harris DAVIES (1801-1880+). He was  firstly married to Sarah Morris circa 1805 who died in 1842.

Margaret's first husband was David Davies 1786-1842 both from MARLYBONE London who had been married to Elizabeth Jones (circa 1786-1838) They must have moved to Trevethin Monmouthshire as her parents were there.  Margaret and Elizabeth Davies were listed as Inn Keeper and David  Davies a Brewer who owned the Three Cranes in Crane St Trevethin Monmouthshire on 1841 and 1851 census. Davies children were relocated to relatives on Davids death but not Elizabeth D

There appears a lot of possible connection any help??

Seeing help in finding the parents and birth location of my ggrandfather William Couche and wife Ellen Crone, who were married in St Finbar's (South) Cork City in 1837, Ireland.

Their son Richard Couche married Margaret Crone 1844-1906 Baldwin St Brigown, Mitchelstown Cork and had about 13 children he was a loan officer. Margarets parents Honora Roache abt 1813 -post 1871 Melbourne Australia and Thomas Crone 1811-1871 of same address. I am also interested in finding Honora Roaches parents both of this couple  both  noted on the Peerage pages as is Thomas father. Their children were Elizabeth 1834, Ann 1838, Richard 1841 m Kate Callaghan, Thomas abt 1842 and Margaret Crone 1844 and one I could not find

William Couche Jnr 1845-1913 their second son, married Mary Ann Mc Carthy 1845-1914 were my  great grand parents. He became Super Intendant of Police, dying in East Ballarat Victoria. I suspect Ellen Crone abt 1812 may have been related to Honora Roache Crone but cant yet prove this as yet as both sons children  have similar middle names.

I did find a William and Ellen Couche born about 1782 from Gosport Hampshire with son William born there in 1813, but I cant progress any further

I have hit a bit of a brick wall and would appreciate your assistance in finding my relatives. many thanks in advance, Jen Solity
