Unfortunately, this obsession with only looking at two individuals in one line of a family tree is social history not geneology.   :( It was an interesting programme about Jamaica's break from English Rule and the rise of the PNP in Jamaica.  But... as a programme billed to be all about tracing John Barnes' family tree it fell short so I can understand why some on this thread found it boring.  I wanted to know why Stephen Hill, his great grandfather had the money to own and race thoroughbred horses and rise to be assistant editor of the Daily Gleamer.  The fact that we were never told has me wondering...  ;) Hopefully someone can shed some light on Stephen's ancestry.....

What a load of rubbish!  Apparently Albert 'loved no-one so was not loved by anyone'.  ? He was a drinker, couldn't be trusted with the children etc.  ?  Err.  Evidence please.  WDYTYR stick to the facts please.

Baines Directory for Marr for 1822 has 6 people listed (it is a tiny village), one being a "William Lumley, Farmer".

Antrim / Hendry/Henry McCallum and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Dowds - birth/marriage look up plea

Hendry/Henry McCallum and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Dowds were born in Cushendall, County Antrim circa 1841 and 1855 respectively (by family word of mouth).  They married and then moved temporarily to Coatbridge Lanarkshire, Scotland around 1877.  Having  John (1877) and Alex (1879) there.  They then returned to Ireland, where their oldest daughter Mary was born in Ballymoney, Antrim, with Jane b 1883 and Agnes b 1888, both in Cushendall.  This is the only line of my family where I have made no progress in 15 years.  Any help to identify Henry and Lizzie would be really greatly appreciated.

Great programme.  Wish I had seen all the footage. Naff though this sounds, half the fun - and most of the satisfaction - of pursuing one's ancestors comes from the chase...  ;)

My great, great grandfather was Irish but died in Glasgow.  I was seriously impressed with the information on the Scottish certificate when I found his death certificate on Scotland's people.  Had he died in Ireland, I would still be in the dark about two generations of my family. Pleased that the the programme spent time on the detail. 

Hopefully the Patrick Steward episode was a one-off.

Thanks Victor.  On a non-related point, I have a voucher for a geneology bookshop that I have yet to use.  Is the Burial index something worth getting on CD in your view.   MH

There is a John Alexander Hamilton aged 28, occupation: clerk, leaving Ireland and arriving in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in Nov 1910.  He was travelling alone.  However, I note that there were two or three "John Alexander Hamilton"'s born in Ireland around the time your ancestor was born, so although this might be a lead, equally it might not...
