Family History Beginners Board / Ballantyne Family
« on: Wednesday 23 July 14 20:03 BST (UK)  »
Good Evening. I am wanting to trace my mothers family, the majority seem to have been born/lived around the Galashiels area.

Limited knowledge to date is Walter Ballantyne born approx 1850, married Jane Brydon 01.11.1872

I do not have birth or death dates of either.

Walters parents James born approx 1805, mother Mary, maiden name unknown born approx 1807. If you could let me have the birth.death dates of the above and marriage date of James and Mary as starters it would be appreciated.

I would like to look at Parish registers etc but in South Africa at present.

Thank you.

I want to go though all this tomorrow but at this stage I cannot see where George Llewellyn fits in, and his son George Edwin

George H married Louisa Ann Ashby 1909 in West Ham their daughter was born 1910 but shows on the 1911 census as staying with Alfred and Emma Gibbs.

George sister Lily Elizabeth married John Norfolk in 1915,

I do not have any details of George H except he was born in 1887? Lily I believe she was married to a John Norfolk in 1915 and died in 1973 bur I cannot vouch for the correctness of this information. Sorry to be so vague

Good Evening,

Can anybody shed any light on the above. Father was Edwin George Lewis born 16 September 1863 in Poplar, mother Rosa Caroline Gibbs, born 23 June 1867. They also has Lily and Edwin Alfred, my grand father.

I am trying to widen my knowledge without the help, currently of BMD and Ancestry.

Thanks,

Colin

I have been away for over a year but am now back to trying just to clarify in my own mind re Rosa Caroline Gibbs.

I have a date of her marriage to Edwin George Lewis 15.11 1884.

I cannot find any trace re a divorce.

I have two dates for the death of Edwin Lewis 1894 in Bedminster, listed as a coachman/domestic servant, and 1904 in Haggerstown listed as a metal worker. I have no way of knowing if either of these are right

I have details of Carolinegoing to New Zealand and dying there.

I really would like to know if there is anyway anybody can find out if Caroline divorced Edwin or not. Plus it would be nice to have clarification of Edwin,s date of death and where he died.
I do not have access to BMD, Ancestry etc so if anyon ???e could help, then I will have to close on these two.

Thanking you in advance

Colin

Hi,

I have tried over some period of time to get the death of Edwin George Lewis but cannot definitely say I have the right one. So far I have an Edwin Lewis died 1894 at Bedminster, shown as a coachman/domestic servant, aged 31, do not think this is the one, then an Edwin Lewis aged 40, died Haggerston in London aged 40. Shown as a metal worker. Have pursued this with reference staff in library, family history section but nothing totally conclusive. I have limited info on the Gibbs as such but have not really pursued that line. Shout if can be of assistance. Colin.

Family History Beginners Board / Re: David Lewis

OK so the general census is that this is the same family, one large family.  Dav ids age differs a bit but I am lead to believe five years is not uncommon. Edwin/Edward is likely to be the same person then and David, brother and sister Esther have left home by the 1851 census. I have a copy of Davidc marriage solemnized in the presence of what looks like Edward and Maria Tissler/Turner? I still go back to my original query that with no real concrete of Davids father, only possible he also was David, am I at the end of tracing this line back. ???

Any suggestions

Thanks,

Colin.
