Hi Terry,

Thanks for your messages, and sorry for the delay in replying. Amazing that you lived at number 20. May I ask what the house and garden were like?

Regards,

Andrew Palmer

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your message and photo. I can't see the Gasworks photo, though, so I'll have a look at the Remembering Auld Ayr group. As an Australian, the first thing that strikes me is the brown brickwork of Ayr. I wonder if the Duke Street houses were built of the same?

Regards,

Andrew Palmer

Hi Warncoort. No I hadn't checked the Surname Interests Table - thanks for suggesting it.

Hi Cando,

I've made contact with a few, but so far the owners have either been from 'my' line or have Francis POWELL on the periphery of their tree. That's why I thought I'd try a different approach and post on Rootschat.

Australia / Seeking descendants of Francis "Frank" Powell 1832-1908

I'm seeking descendants of Francis "Frank" Powell, who emigrated to Australia from Ballylanders, Limerick, Ireland in 1854. Francis married Catherine Taylor in Geelong, Victoria, in 1859.

Francis became a hotel proprietor in Ballarat, then Melbourne, before ending his days as a "gentleman" in Carlton, Melbourne.

Francis is the brother of my 3x great grandfather, George Powell c.1829-1887. The Powell clan from Sheep Hills and Ballarat recently held a reunion, but we would love to make contact with Francis' family.

Australia / Seeking descendants of John Henry "Jack" Palmer 1881-1966

I'm seeking descendants of John Henry "Jack" Palmer born Ballarat, Victoria 1881, died Elsternwick, Victoria 1966. He married Margaret Manser Hibbins in Ballarat in 1912.

It is said that he spent time in Western Australia, probably between 1924 and 1942, and joined the Salvation Army.

John Henry Palmer is the brother of my great-grandfather, Arthur George Palmer. Any information would be welcome.

Australia / Dating building by brickwork Windermere, Victoria, Australia
« on: Saturday 17 October 15 23:55 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to date a family farmhouse, and have been told that the brickwork in the chimneys can give a clue. The house is at Windermere, Victoria, Australia. The land was first purchased in 1854, then went through a series of owners before my family bought it in 1909.

Please see attached photos of the farmhouse and the chimneys.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Andrew

Thanks, Jo. Coming back to my investigation after a Christmas break. I'm inclined to agree with you regarding William and Hannah being Isaac's parents. Thanks for your research.

Andrew
