Hi Pat,

Just in case you have been spending time searching Scottish records - Baits Strand farm is still in Northumberland and England. Only just - the border is not far up the road.

I can confirm it is Etal Mill. The miller is on the previous page.

When the children were born, Tweedmouth and Norham were in the county of Durham, Ford was in Northumberland.

Mary and James were born in Ford, John in Tweedmouth, and Robert & Margaret in Norham.

Hi Carol,

Could it be Presson? This is near Carham, and would come under the Glendale Union.

Preston in the north of the county would be under Belford.

The Crookham Presbyterian baptism register has a Matthew Mills, son of Robert Mills of Crookham, baptised 31 March 1798.

Is this too early to be the one you are looking for?

Hi Helen,

The sooner he gets back the better - his vast knowledge of the streets of Cambois is desperately needed!

Hi Sue,

I have these entries from Presbyterian registers -

Crookham
16 March 1820  John son of William Hately, labourer, Cornhill, by his wife Catharine, daughter of Andrew Hunter, was born 16 March 1820

Etal
Elenor daughter of William & Catherine Hately of Rhodes was born 19 March 1809
Robert son of William & Catherine Hately of Rhodes was born 6 December 1813

Ford burials
4 May 1812  Eleanor Hately of Rhodes, daughter of William Hately, husbandman, by his wife Catherine, late Forster. Died 2nd May aged 3 years.

I don't know if these are the right family for you - there seems to be some disagreement about Catherine's maiden surname.
