Thank you for the information. It sounds like it was a terrifying place.

Many thanks for your help. I don't think we had his mother's death details. It's sad she was in a workhouse.
We think we found James's death record in London in 1990. He had been listed as Cummings. The suggestion for the alternative spellings is useful. Tried Cummings/Cumins/Commons and variations but not Cowmans. It's something we will research.

Hello, Many thanks for your replies and help. All of your suggestions have been researched and unfortunately, found not to be our James. Because we cannot find a marriage or death record which confirms the details we know, we are stuck. We have found some relatives in the records but they do not give any clue or a link to James' life.

Hello, I wonder if anyone can offer any help how to find details about a lost relative. I am looking for a James Cummins also known as James Patrick Cummins or Jimmy Cummins. He was born on 24th February 1899 in Ardee Street to Luke and Mary nee McNally. I can find him in the 1901 and 1911 census. He appears to have fought in WW1 and survived. I know he was in Dublin in 1930 and probably in Liverpool in 1937. Then the trail runs cold. No one can locate him after this date. My relatives and I have searched the various Irish Genealogy sites, Ancestry, Find My Past and Family Search but nothing gives us any clue to his life after 1937. I would appreciate any suggestions about where I could find more details about him. Thanks.

Hello,
My apologies for the delay in replying. Thank you for the information. So there are still relatives in Letterkenny! That is wonderful news. I live in Sussex so don't get over to Ireland very often. If you were able to find any information about Mary Anne and her family, I would be grateful. All of her children except one left the area and moved all over the world, therefore I know little about the family in Letterkenny.
Best wishes.

It is lovely to hear from you.

My great grandmother was James's sister, Mary Anne. Do you know much about the family in Drumnashamer? I believe their parents were Anthony and Anne. Other than this, I know nothing.

Hello,

Further information concerning your family. I am related to the Keanes. I do not know much about the Casey family. The details you find in the Census for 1901 and 1911 relates to Ellen's grandfather, John Snr. He lived in the family home and took over ownership from his mother. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai000858296/ and http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Kerry/Portmagee/Portmagee_Town/105278/. I have been told this house was by the water's edge and the house by the bridge is a different house which was built by John Jnr when he got married. I have been in the house when John's brother lived there. My mother nor I remember it being pink.

My link to you is through John Snr.'s sister, Ellen. Your grandmother was called after her. It seems the family would also call your grandmother Nell.

There are strong links with Valentia Island. I think John Snr's mother came from there but John's father was from the Portmagee area. I can go back a little further but not much.

I will send you by private message your direct ancestors (as much as I know it). If you have more information about the family, I would appreciate it.

Any queries, please contact me.

Hello,
It is wonderful to actually hear from someone related to me!

I do not know if there are any living relatives in the area. I believe Nora and Jackie had children. They may be still in the area. There is a heritage centre on Valentia Island and you may be able to get more information. When I tried, the information available was quite limited. I met Nora and Jackie many years ago. You may know more about them than me. Do you know any more about the family and the siblings of John and his father, also John? I know a little but I do not want to tell you what you may already know, but I will be happy to give you what I can.
