Hi

Wonder if anyone can help me with some information about my grandfather.  I have his service record from ancestry but cannot tell if he ever left England during his service.  There are various documents as part of his service record and these are the details about him and what I can make out.

John James Barbour
age 27
no: 158007
rank: sapper
attested: 10 dec 1915 old town hall, lancaster
mobilised: 28 July 1916
batt No2 ATA - posted gnr 29 July 1916
RFA 68th div - posted 7 Sep 1916

On a protection certificate and certificate of identity

John James Barbour
Regt No 307415
Rank Sapper
Unit 9 W?   RE
Born 1888
Medical cat C1
Theatre - Western
first joined 28 july 1916

On another page it states

rank gnr regt no TF741345
dated 29 Aug 1917 transferred to RE

I would love to have some idea what he did and where.   He was a tool trader so could understand him being in the Royal Engineers but was surprised to see him in the Inland Water Transport Section.

Thank you in anticipation for any help/information you can offer.

Hi

I have found burial entries for Withington Workhouse on findmypast but wondered if anyone knew what the different departments were?

One child died and the department is given as 4a and the other died a couple of weeks later and the department looks like Cott.

Many Thanks

Hi

Wonder if anyone can help please I am looking for information on my great great grandfather Ernest William Perugia.  In his petition for divorce in 1886 it states he joined the army and was based in Canterbury with his company in 1885 and on his daughters marriage certificate in 1914 it states he is deceased but was a Private in the Cape Mounted Rifles.

Would really appreciate any information or places to look.

Many thanks

Linda

Hi

Have just found your site which is excellent. I am researching the Thomson / Dryburgh / Nicol families for my family tree.

From information given on here I have been able to confirm and update information I have on my tree plus add additional information  and would be happy to exchange information with any others researching the same family.  Helen Dryburgh (1800-1862) and Thomas Nicol  (1799-1862) are my 3 x great grandparents.

Debbie, I have seen some of the photographs on here and they are superb, if I need them for my family, what information do you need? or do you already have the information to be able to send me these photographs having been asked by people in the past?

Kindest Regards

Duncan
