There are numerous reports in Newspapers referring to a singer named Nellie Smith, but may not be the same person.

One in 1922 in Sheffield.

According to the baptism, if the correct person, he was born in Pentre, Aberhafesp.

Pentre is just to the north west of Aberhafesp

They were both baptised on the same day in Shepshed, 16 Oct 1796, to John and Dorothy.

Probably twins, although no mention.

At the end of the second line, it mentions "from Thorpe-??" It looks a bit like Close

Ellen Matthews, 27, Spinster, of Silsbury Street, Hunsley, daughter of Robert Matthews, Labourer

Both made marks

Witnesses: Look like William Gray and the mark of Mary Ann Bird

One tree has son, David (1882-1924), marrying Ethel Tatham (1886-1953) Q3 1910 in Royston.

A tree on Ancestry has him born on 24th July 1906 to George W Green, b 1875, and Elizabeth Matthews, 1891-1980.

George William Green born Q1 1875 in Gainsborough mmn Bean. Sibling also mmn Bean.

Son of John Green and Mary, but no marriage found.

The tree has the Mathews family going back to 1594.

Although you mention two surviving children, one tree has another

Sarah Ann Standen, daughter of Charles and Susan, baptised in Gamlingay on 1st October 1837.

She married William Endersby on 11th November 1855 and is on the 1881 census at Cottage, Everton, Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, with five children.

Living with he son, Charles, in Gamlingay in 1891 and 1901, and died there in 10th February 1904.

A lot of trees on Ancestry have William Sherwin, born in Leicester in 1802 and dying on 25th January 1838 in Hobart, son of William Sherwin and Mary Higgs.

Convicted in Leicester in 1818 and sentenced to 7 years transportation.

Unfortunately, no details about his father's origins.

Mathew Darby married Eliza Heywood in St Marylebone, London, on 3rd September 1676.

Daughters, Martha & Mary, baptised on 10th July 1677 at Saint Stephan, Coleman Street, London.
Son, Mathew baptised there on 20 Oct 1678.
