Hi Richard

I am descended from John Jackson, who I believe was the brother of your Amos.  Amos and Isabella had a daughter Sarah.  On the 1851 census she is shown ast John's home and described as his niece.  I know that John was from Rochester (which is very near Byrness) and both he and Amos were coal miners.  Amis died in 1850 GRO d:  Bellingham Mar 1850 Vol 25 p 167.  However I cannot find a common parent yet as I have not found John's record of baptism.  I suspect Amos may be the son of John and Eleanor Hedley who was baptised 24.2.1799 at Birdhope Craig Presbyterian Chapel.  I have some details of Amos's descendants - which one are you descended from?  I am the great-great grandson of John's daughter, Mary Ann Jackson.

Kind regards

David

Hi Laura

Many thanks for your message (I am new to this site so don't know how to reply to it privately).  Yes, you and I are, I think, second cousins.  Joyce is my mum - still alive and just celebrated her 79th last week.  My uncle Kenneth died in 1977 when only 36.  I remember some of the Reeds from when I was little and living in the north-east as some lived next to my dad's parents in Jarrow.  My mum remembers a lot about her uncles and aunts - the family was so big that the older children were old enough to be surrogate parents to the younger ones.  As as result many of mum's cousins were ancient when she was still only in her twenties, as her dad was one of the younger ones.  I have details of the Reeds back to about 1790 in Bishopwearmouth, but there are quite a few gaps.  I have got the Beatons back to about the same in Coll, Scotland and the McAllisters (Elizabeth Lang Beaton's mother's family) back to the late eighteeth century in DUmbartonshire.  Happy to exchange details - just tell me how!  Where are you?  I am on Worcestershire.

John Thomas Reed  was my great grandfather.  His son Robert Reed b 1901 was my grandfather who married Adah Pace b 1903, my gran.  I have been trying to trace the Reeds and the Beatons and have some information we could share.  How far have you got?
