Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Address in Pontefract

Hello again,
Good news,I've found the exact location of Addingsley Yard,Pontefract.A visit to the local library had very good results. They have a number of maps of Pontefract and the surrounding area and I came across one that had Addingsley Yard on it.I didn't realise that the road layout was so different at that time.Anyway although the map was very large I've managed to get a photo copy of the relevant section.Although that yard is gone (Star Yard is still here which looks like it was the next yard up from Addingsley) so I have taken a few photos of some of the older buildings roundabout there.I did look at the census you spoke of,Elizabeth was adopted wasn't she.I can't find anything of North Yard in Pontefract but I did stumble on one in Knottingley where a boat was moored in the census.I will try and find it again.
Bear with me and I will do my best to scan the map for you today.Do you want it on here or would you prefer by email,if so let me know.
Bye
Terese

Hello,I've not heard of North Yard but I'll see if I can find anything out about it.Do you have any more information ? family names, years etc. Some surrounding towns and villages were classed as Pontefract in earlier census's even though they weren't actually here in Pontefract, also Tanshelf which is in Pontefract, was also classed as a district.I'm happy to help anyway I can...........Terese  :)

It looks as if Addingsley Yard was in Ropergate not Market Place. Both Ropergate and Market Place still exist
and there are still a few yards still in existence in Pontefract though with most just the name remains.I live in Pontefract and even I have trouble looking up some of the old address's.If you are a member of find mypast I have found that just typing Pontefract and then going through all the streets alphabetically gives the best results as many yards are hidden in the streets that you wouldn't find without doing a census search on the street first.I will see if I can find anything about it for you  if you are still interested but I am new to this forum so you may already have the information you need.
