World War One / Soldier relative appearing on 1905 photo?
« on: Thursday 19 March 15 11:58 GMT (UK)  »
I recently came across a photo of 2nd Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers taken in 1905 and knowing my GGF was serving with NF at this time and given the pic was a decent resolution I thought it was worth a scan for him.

I found a soldier who had a similar shaped face and overlay a picture of him* taken in 1905 and his facial features scaled perfectly.

You can of course, make anything convincing using photoshop and there's always an element of wishful thinking with these things, but it looks like a good match, does anyone agree?

*Original photo on left, 50% blend in middle, 100% on right.

Fascinating read, thank you for sharing.

My GGF also of the 1st Bn NF enlisted in 1904 and was on reserve working in Milford, Derbyshire in August 1914.

Pte. Abner Sanders embarked with the first draft on 13th August and was wounded near Pont Du Hem, La Bassee on 14th October 1914. Even though he received a terrible head wound he made it back to England where he died on 1st November at Connaught Hospital, Aldershot.

He left a 4 year old son (my Grandfather) and a 10 month old daughter.

apologies for the test emails, I'm new to roots chat and just came across this thread, Charles Tomlinson (b 1831) is my 3rd Great-grandfather. My great-grandmother mother was Matlida Perkins (1886-1954) daughter of Thomas Perkins & Sarah Tomlinson.

I've recently come across a few press cuttings and photo's of the perkins which I'm planning on scanning soon... be interested in info swaps (PM me)
