Thanks for the offer. Personally I,ve been researching Derby city in the 1700s recently but made no progress.

Thanks for the suggestion Spendlove. This has turned up two marriages I haven't seen before, 30Dec1727 & 13Aug1733, even though I have looked at Phillimore, St Peter before on a different site.

Derbyshire / Derby 1700s Houghtons help
« on: Sunday 13 May 12 16:15 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to take my family history back further. Having passed thro Ilkeston I've this record,
1748 21Aug Marriage  John Houghton to Hannah Bennett at St Peter Derby Film 455138.
I can't find any christening in Derby and I'm not sure this record necessarily means the family lived there. Many of the records at Matlock for this era are virtually illegible. Any help would be appreciated.

It seems to be on Google map as Beehive Rd and is off Old Rd, Brampton.

I lived on Old Hall Rd, Brampton near Pearsons Recreation Ground which is opposite Manor Rd. The top end of this section of road continued as a footpath and the Wasp Nest brick kiln was to the right. I remember seeing men removing freshly made bricks and believe it was still operating till 1956. The top end of the footpath came out on the 2nd section of Manor Rd. Although I am using past tense, I think the road and footpath layout is still the same, but the brick kiln site and Inkerman quarry have gone. Pearson's Brampton pottery was at the far side of the recreation ground.
