Tyrone / jane or mary dunbar baptism termonmaguirk parish
« on: Thursday 29 September 16 13:33 BST (UK)  »
I have not been able to find a civil registration for the birth of my ggrandmother who used jane and mary at different times in Scotland. Her parents were alexander dunbar and sarah elkin. This family is listed in the "Dunbars of Tyrone" website but she is missing. Can someone tell me the local churches in the hope of finding a baptism. Apparently some children were Catholic and some were Protestant. The family lived in Donaghanie and births were registered at Sixmilecross.
At a dead end - any help appreciated.

Hello
Further to earlier reply I forgot to tell you that I am not related to any Conaghans in Australia.
Thanks

Hello
My Edward Connaghan did not emigrate to Australia. He died in Edinburgh in the late 1890's. I have traced all members of my Connaghan family in Scotland.
Thanks

Hi
I have traced my Australian branch and am in contact with descendants. I would like more info about my ancestors in Co.Donegal who I have traced back to 1865 in Magheralosk. My spelling is with two N's in the middle and I have not found a connection with Conaghan.
Thanks for the reply.

I believe they were Church of Ireland/Presbyterian although the family of what should be Jane's oldest brother were Presbyterian and Roman Catholic.

I am unable to find a registration for the birth of my great-grandmother Jane Dunbar, daughter of Alexander Dunbar and Sarah Elkin who were married in Edenderry, Co.Tyrone in 1853. Jane was married to Joseph Donaldson in 1887 in Glasgow and gave her age as 20. On being widowed she re-married as Mary Dunbar. The other Dunbar children were all registered at Sixmilecross and apparently lived in Clogherny by Beragh in Termonmaguirk Parish. What churches are in this area where I can enquire about baptisms?

Hello
I am trying to find any information about the family of Hugh Connaghan (my gggrandfather) who married Madjy Gallagher. Sons Daniel (born c.1859), Edward (born c.1862) and James b.1865(registered) all came to Scotland around 1882 to work in shale mining in Burntisland, Fife. James' birth cert. is in Crossroads, Dunfanaghy. The death certs. for Hugh and Madjy (1890/1891) are registered in Gweedore. I have found Hugh in Griffiths and know the descendants of the family in Scotland, Australia and Canada. Hugh Connaghan's death was registered by Hannah Sweeney.

Hi
My reply should read DUNBAR not Dundas.

Thanks kingskerswell
I already have this list and wondering if Jane/Mary was the child of another member of either the Dundas or Elkin families brought up by Alexander and Sarah. Any info on church records in Termonmaguirk parish?
