My mum was born and raised in whittle and her best friend was called crooke and she was from a catholic family, they owned part of the quarry in whittle and had a large home which has now been converted into a nursing home x

It was The Grove Inn and I'm afraid it isn't there anymore the area was redeveloped however he's listed as being the publican from 1910-1913 check out this link it also has a picture of the pub http://3.bp.bl

Hello there! I am from whittle and have only registered with this site because as I googled 'the top lock pub whittle-le-woods' to see if I could find the pub menu your post showed up!!! I'm not 100% sure but I seem to remember being told that the water in whittle springs was thought to be healing water years ago and people with ailments used to travel from all over to bathe in it that maybe why its called 'new springs' I will speak with my mum about it and get back to you with any other info x
