Canada Lookup Request / Re: Ellen Denham to Toronto in 1912
« on: Thursday 24 January 13 14:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, Sue!

I was trying to help out a Hazel on a different genealogy site when I started this thread back in 2009. Nothing's come of it.

Hazel did say the following:

Discovered another marriage for their mother and went from there. Ellen and her twin sister Florence were living with her their Step Father Henry Archibald Campbell. Girls named Tilly and Eva.and two of their older brothers. (1901 cen.)

Their father George Denham died very young and Sarah Denham nee Campkin married again to Henry Archibald Campbell. School records (1901) show them being taken to school by Archibald and their names were given as Eva and Matilda. This was the clue that we needed about a new marriage

Sarah died and Henry married again to a Mary - no surname given so not sure about this as cannot find a marriage. The twins were living with them aged l9 at tje address pf 113 Farringdon Road Buildings. This address seems to have occurred regularly

Still looking for Ellen Mary Denham - Matilda or Tilly.

Nick,

I've sent a larger JPG of the photo to your hotmail id.  Maybe details will be a bit clearer.

My mother-in-law says she has a similar post card of Arthur's brother Roy. It sounds like it was taken at the same location.  She says that Roy's motorbike is different, though, and has ARIEL marked on it as well as OHMS.  She is sending me the post card by mail.

Nick,

Here's another picture of Arthur in uniform.

Nick,

Thanks so much for your reply. It's all very interesting and I'm sure my mother-in-law will appreciate the information.

I know very little about Arthur. My mother-in-law says that he was a theatrical agent. There appears to be corroboration of that in “The Harrison story: Harrison and Harrison, organ builders, Durham” written by Laurence Elvin. That book has a section on Arthur's brother the famous organist G. T. Pattman and the travelling organ with which he toured Britain from 1916 to 1923. It says that "Pattman’s brother was in charge of a staff of six" necessary to manage the organ. That brother could only be Arthur.

I do have a number of photos some of which I'm attaching here. I don't know if it's the same motorbike as in the picture I posted above in 2009. I can send larger copies to your e-mail if you wish.

Regards,

mat

Les,

That's such a touching story.

It wouldn't have been the first gravesite in Pine Hills that I'd have found unmarked. I always feel rather sad when I encounter one. You might want to ask Pine Hills what their rules and standards are for markers first. I'm sure that they will place it for you once it's provided to them. I can take photos for you when it's in place.

I'm your guy. I've gone to Pine Hills on behalf of a couple of Rootschatters. There's a bit of snow on the ground right now but Thursday's weather might make that disappear. Friday looks like a good opportunity.

I had tried Pages of the Past but searches based on "Page" turned up too many hits. Just now, I get nothing for the exact phrase "Lane Dorothy" and only one hit (June 30, 1997) for the exact phrase "Dorothy Lane". That date doesn't turn up when I throw in her maiden name and her great-grandson's unique name.

It looks like contacting Nobleton Cemetery is my best bet.

Nobleton, Ontario, that is. I have his obituary from the Toronto Star. I'm hoping that Dorothy's date of death will lead me to her obit.

I'm looking for the date of death of the Dorothy M. Page who was married to William Harry Lane (1919-1991). They have a stone in Nobleton cemetery but Dorothy was apparently still alive when the transcription was done in 1994.

I'm hoping to confirm if she is the Dorothy May Page born May 15, 1914, in Toronto.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
