Thanks to all the people who have replied in the past few days, to be honest I had not checked this thread for a long time.

There is some new information for which I am very grateful, and to add a little more. On my Dad's birth certificate which I now have, Stanley is listed as a member of the MGC, but in India. I knew nothing about the tank corps, but my Dad also joined a tank regiment in WWII. (The 15th/19th Hussars).

The address near Claypole is relevant too, his parents in law lived in a house nearby. All I know of it was what the family called it, which was Twisted Chimneys - where my Dad was brought up by his grandparents.

Thanks for the advice, but there is no record of him there.

Never mind, I may have to call in Sherlock Holmes. :)

I have drawn a complete blank on my grandfather. His name was Stanley Henry RANNS, born 1892 in Ipswich.

In 1918 he married in Hartlepool, where he was working in the shipyards.

After that I can find no records of him.

I have tried St. Catherines Index, emigration records, family knowledge.

He was presumably living in 1920 when my father was born, but I cannot verify that either.

Any advice or help waould be most welcome.

Thanks,

Baz
