No age given in the particular copy of Ballyclog records which I have. It's probably advisable to get a copy of the marriage certificate from GRONI - it may not have ages but it should have father's name and this may help to narrow a search for this John Devlin

Tyrone / Re: Martin Moortown?

I was doing some work a couple of years ago on the children of Jeremiah Martin (1871-1946) and Roseanne Coyle (1877-1947) of Ardboe and County Mayo, and I surmised that Jeremiah was a son of Thomas Martin and Sarah Anne O'Neill, and thus a brother of Rachel, Agnes, Ambrose, Julia, Mary Ellen. I also reckoned that the Sarah Jane who married Francis Quinn in 1902 was also a sister, although her baptism is not in the Ardboe parish register. However I didn't check out this family. I don't think the Thomas Martin family lived in the Moortown area of Ardboe parish; possibly Brookend and Trickvallen. There is only one Sarah J Martin in the 1901 census for Ardboe parish - see Munterevlin/Kilmascally/home of Robert James Corr, where Sarah J Martin was the servant girl. That would possibly explain a Moortown connection.

I couldn't find your Jane Corr in the 1901 or 1911 census returns for Munterevlin (Ardboe) but I did find a possible death date on FamilySearch. Jane Corr died in the Cookstown Registration District (which includes Ardboe) in the quarter April-June 1907. Her estimated birth year is given as 1841. That information would be sufficient for you to obtain a copy of a death certificate from the General Register Office Northern Ireland which you will find online at nidirect.gov.uk/gro

I looked in my copy of the Ardboe baptismal register (RC) and could not find Jane. Then I realised that I had read "Joannam" as "Joannem" and translated this name as John, not Jane for the entry of 18 June 1841. See attached photo from the original register.
The parents were William Tassey/Tarsey and the mother was Sarah Devlin. Address - the townland of Ardean in Ardboe parish. There are other children of the same parents -
1. (possibly) Mary Anne born 24 August 1828
2. John born 17 August 1831
3. Catherine born 29 February 1834
4. Patrick born 9 April 1835
5. James born 19 October 1838
6. Jane born 18 June 1841

The earliest mention of your family in Ardboe records is in the Tithes Applotment Book of 1826 which shows William Tarsey living in the townland of Ardean. I have a cousin in New York whose grandmother Mary Tassey was from Ardboe. There are quite a number from her branch of the family still living in Ardboe, but the name Tassey is no longer extant here. My cousin's cousin did some research several years ago and her theory is that the family originated in France. My theory for what it is worth is that William Tarsey or his ancestor reached Ardboe via the barges that plied Lough Neagh and the canal system from Belfast, Newry etc. There is a headland just south of the Battery Harbour in Ardboe which is called Tassey's Point, and this would indicate that William lived here, beside the harbour.

I sent a facebook message to the person who posted on Ardboe Gallery: the first part of the message was as follows -
Re: your query on Ardboe Gallery. I administer that Facebook page. James Corr (born 10 February 1856) had a brother Patrick (born 24 September 1858) who married Ellen Quinn in Ardboe in Ardboe 24 December 1876. They had several children. Three of these lived in the townland of Annaghmore, Ardboe. It is possible that you visited Francis Corr and his sister Ellen Corr, or relations of Mary Corr who married Mick Conway in 1913. A son of Patrick Corr and Ellen Quinn - Robert James Corr - married Margaret Sheeky in Glasgow on 5 November 1915. A descendant of theirs........etc etc

Some information which may be of interest –
There is no baptismal entry in the Ardboe RC register (dated from November 1827) for Mark Devlin, but it contains the following baptisms:
15 September 1831 – Catherine Devlin
6 October 1833 – Luke Devlin
11 May 1836 – Patrick Devlin
4 August 1839 – Joseph Devlin
The parents in each case are Eugenio Devlin and Maria Hanan/Hannan.
Invariably in the Ardboe registers the (partially Latinised) name “Eugenio” is Owen.
The address is the townland of Kinrush, in two instances the hamlet Clinba (part of Kinrush) is given as the address.
Devlin and Hannan/Hannon are strongly linked with Kinrush up to the present time.
I would surmise that these are siblings of Mark Devlin.

There is a baptism on 25 February 1855 for Eugene Devlin, of Mark Devlin and Mary Ann Quinn. Sponsors: Terence and Mary Quinn.

There are no other baptismal entries where Bridget Gillan, or any variation of the name, is the mother.
The only other mention of the surname is the baptism of Eleanor Hannon in 1831 where one of the sponsors was Michael Gillon.
Gillan/Gillen/Gillon does not appear in the 1826 tithes register for Ardboe, nor in the 1859 Griffith’s Valuation for Ardboe

Below is the inscription from the headstone of Jeremiah and Isabella McIvor family in Mullinahoe graveyard, Ardboe. Although I had photographed and transcribed all the headstones in this graveyard several years ago, I went back today and re-checked this one because Jeremiah's apparent age gives him a year of birth approximately 1837. I re-photographed the inscription just to be doubly certain - it has been cleaned since I first photographed it.

My assumption would be that this Jeremiah (d.1900) was a son of Jeremiah McIvor and Anne McSloy, was a brother of Mary (b.1832) and of John (b.1836). I wouldn’t be overly concerned by the fact that there is no entry in the baptismal records: this is a not uncommon occurrence, for instance my own great grandfather was baptised in Ardboe in 1839 but he does not appear in the register. I know from perusing the registers that they were only written up every few months, and inevitably some slips of paper with baptismal details on them had been lost before the official entry could be made.

It is feasible that the Jeremiah who married Anne McSloy was also the Jeremiah who married Sarah McIvor in 1849.

Pray for the souls of Jeremiah McIvor, Ballymurphy, died 6th May 1900 aged 63. His wife, Isabella died 7th April 1910 aged 67. His daughter Annie died 8th March 1909 aged 23. And his sons, James died 27th April 1933, aged 54. Jeremiah, died in U.S.A., April 1945. His daughter in law Mary McIvor died 1st Oct. 1956, aged 57. And her husband John McIvor died 5th Feb. 1983 aged 97. Hugh died in Glasgow April 1965 aged 76. R.I.P. McIvor

Perhaps you will let me know what you think as regards this.

Dette, I've been reading your posts and I believe you may find the following information useful. I have the original Ardboe parish registers (which begin October 1827) and I also have all the entries on worksheets so that I can easily group familes together etc.

There is no entry for a marriage of Jeremiah McIvor and Anne McSloy but the following births are in the register:
27 September 1832 - Mary McIver of Jeremiagh and Anne McSloy. Barracks (last is the address: it's a part of the townland of Drumaney. It's not a barracks, it's the Irish word barach meaning a wooded hill top)

4 March 1836 - John of Jeremia McIver and Anna McSloy. Barracks

There are no more baptismal entries for this family.

There is a marriage in Ardboe parish on 25 May 1849 for Jeremia McIver and Sara McIver

Baptisms:
15 March 1850 - Nancy Ann of (no forename, simply a line) ------ McIver and Sarah McIver. Mullaghwhitra (the townland immediately adjacent to Drumaney/Barracks)
16 December 1852 - Joseph of Jeremiah McIver and Sara McIver. Barracks
2 November 1854 - Mary of Jeremiah McEver and Sarah McEver
5 September 1856 - Patrick of Jeremy McEver and Sarah Do. (Do. meaning ditto, that is, McEver)
