US Resources & Offers / U. S. grave photo resource: Findagrave
« on: Tuesday 17 April 12 00:49 BST (UK)  »
Just thought I'd mention (remind folks?) that Findagrave does have a "request photo" feature - you do not have to be the creator of the person's "memorial" to place such a request; if that person is not currently listed at the site, you can add him/her yourself, and then request a photo (U. S. burials only).  I've had fairly decent luck with my family members that way.
As an added bonus (incentive) for adding your U. K. (non-U.S. at any rate) family burials, you might get a note from a (distant) relation saying "Thanks! Smedly was my great great grandpa via his daughter Hepzebah."

Have you checked at Findagrave to see whether those individuals are recorded there? If not, you might consider joining and adding them yourself. Either way, you can request photos, even if the memorial was created earlier by someone else; my requests at Oakland were snapped up promptly.

I understand from Victorian lit, such as No Name by Wilkie Collins, that out-of-wedlock meant ****-out-of-luck in terms of legal standing. Of course, that other great novel Bleak House indicates that even so 'which came first, the baby or the vows?' could really have dragged out.

These are from the civil registers kept by the state of Michigan. A friend swears that the birth had been slightly earlier, and they held back reporting (a date) for a bit until after the ceremony.

I can confirm a burial @ Charlton on Otmmor.

4 Apr 1854.  William Kirby, aged 53 of Charlton.

Steve. :)

From OxFHS - Transripts CD.  OXF-BIC01.  (Bicester Reg. District Vol.1).

Is 1854 a transposed number? His entire family(including his wife!)  had left for America by 1849, if so, they left him behind?

and thanks, NDRFT, I think I understand now.

Ireland / Trinity College Alumni Dublinenses SECOND EDITION
« on: Monday 16 April 12 05:40 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have access to this information, covering 1847 - 1860? I have only been able to locate online seachable databases for the first edition (up to 1846), which is too early for my gg grandfather Michael Holihan (born c. 1835) - thanks!

I was flummoxed recently running across a woman who was married, and gave birth, on the same day! No matter how looked at each screen, they kept giving the same date for both events, including checking to be sure that was the date of the event, not date-of-recording.

My grandmother died at 99 years, 4 months - living alone until the last few weeks (my cousins were nearby, and she had a housekeeper/charwoman who looked in on her several days a week).

I would say, offhand, the most nonstandard of miner I can think of would be my great-grandfather, Orestes Doe.
