Cumberland / Help on Birth details of Jonathan Strong
« on: Wednesday 13 July 16 07:43 BST (UK)  »
Am hoping someone can help me with details regarding the birth of my 5x Great Grandfather
(Jonathan) Strong. I believe he was born in in or around Caldbeck/Greystoke Cumberland,  He  married a Mary Barnes who was born in Caldbeck on 03 October 1742 and who married Jonathan on 17 September 1761 also in Caldbeck. I can find births around the right dates (1735-1742) but all for a forename John and not Jonathan. It is possible the  transcription in "familysearch.org" is incorrect and his name is John. Any help would be most gratefully accepted.

Canada Lookup Request / strong/green marriage
« on: Tuesday 07 April 15 01:27 BST (UK)  »
Is there any member in the Battleford/North Battleford Saskatchewan area who could help with a possible marriage (I say possible because it may have taken place in Ontario) between Fergus STRONGb 1888 +- 1 Wigan Lancashire England and Mary GREEN b 1888 +- 1 Wigan Lancashire England. The marriage took place around the late half of 1912 or first half of 1913. I have seen a record of the marriage in the family bible but it doesn't tell me where or exactly when

dawnsh, cocksie and seawall,

Please forgive the long silence about the information you have given.
I have been out of action for some time and only recently have been looking
at all the great replies I have received from you.
I do appreciate your help and would like to say thanks again.
I'm sure snorts in Canada is also grateful as he is researching the same family.
Thank you all again

Cocksie,
Thanks for all the info. I have a record of George being born in Cumberland in 1686 and I am pretty sure I have the right man as it gives his place of birth as Dear Ridding (Deer Rudding) which was (or still is) the name of the farm occupied by the Priestmans' from ???? until 1826 when William Strong married Mary Priestman and the Strongs' then started to farm it. It was in the Strongs' hands until 1945 when William up and left and I don't know what happened to it then. I didn't know about the Yorkshire connection though so thank you for that information. It was my understanding that the Quakers were started by George Fox somewhere around 1650. You certainly have given me a lot to think about - I only hope I can manage to track it all down via the internet.

Dawnsh,
Thanks for the tip about the website. I'll certainly give it a try and see what happens.

Cocksie.
I should have said George - I know they lived on the same farm "Deer Rudding" , which I believe is near Greystoke in Cumberland.

Cocksie,
Yes! that's the correct family. It's difficult trying to go so far back when all you are able to use is the internet ( I'm in Australia). I believe the family were Quakers as far back as Thomas but then again I have no way of checking.  Thank you for trying.

I'm trying to find a date for a marriage between George Priestman b 06 June and 1686 and Elizabeth ??
birthdate unknown. The marriage was according to Quaker ritual in Cumberland and would probably have been around 1705 - 1715. Any help would be much appreciated.

I am trying to find the age of James ALLEN who married Lizzie ROUTLEDGE at Morpeth
in Northumberland in the Sep Qtr 1920. Lizzie was born in 1897 in Cumberland but I don't know if her whole family moved to Northumberland or if she just moved there to be married. Any help at all would be much appreciated - I'm trying to find some sort of birthdate for James. :D

Garstonite
I agree that Irene Highton is probably the one I'm looking for. The 1911 Census shows her at aged 4 and is the only child born to the marriage (alive or dead).
K Garrard - As I have said the 1911 Census doesn't show any children of the marriage who subsequently died.
Heather Julie - Thanks for that info - I has the date but not the church where the marriage took place
and finally Heywood - Not the correct family - Just a big coincidence another William Highton marrying a Mary Elizabeth.
Thanks to all of you for going to all that trouble to assist. I'm down under in Australia so not able to get to any Records Office in Wigan to check personally.
