It could be that Ellen was at someone else's home on the night of the 1861 census. I went back and found the photo that my great aunt had given my father and got a surprise. Great Aunt Ellen had written on the back of the photo stating the people in it were Wlliam Henry and Sarah Ann Nottingham of Birmingham.

Another thought occurred to me. This is a photo taken in England. Does Rootschat have a lost persons programme? Somewhere where people can place pictures and have others identify the people in the photo? Someone else in Warwickshire must have a copy of this photo I am sure. I believe i know the reason it was taken. William died 3 days after it was taken and I feel the family took it so as to have a physical memory of him after he passed. Fanciful speculation I know but a photo and a death so close together has me thinking. Thoughts anyone?

Regards,

Allyn

Hi Nookie,
Yes it dies fit into the family. The 1820 Settlers site has provided me with the only info I can find on the South African side of the family. But what I know is slowly building and I am looking forward to what Gingerbit will find out next year.

This one is giving me nightmares. If they are the same family why would they christen Albert twice? First  in 1866 and then again in 1878? Pointless question really. I have researched Sarah Mills and George Mills, her brother and have only ever found the two with siblings being children of John and Hannah Mills. Not William Mills as shown in the Nottingham marriage cert. I found George Mills living with the Nottinghams in the 1871 and 1881 census........oh dear, under my nose all the time. I have a George Mills living with John and Hannah Mills in both the above census's.

I guess I'm going to have to do some back tracking.

Hi Nookie,

Any information at all on any of them. Francis Rupert is thought to have left the family under a cloud and migrated to New Zealand. I managed to get some references to them all relating to NAAIRS. ITS ALL LISTED IN ANOTHER post I have going. Please check that one too and if you can point me in the right direction of what I do next that would be great.

And thanks for the gravestone tip. I have it now.

« on: Saturday 21 December 13 19:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Need assistance with Francis Rupert Lucas born South Africa 1882. Died 28/01/1958 in New Zealand. Fought in Boer War ( not sure which side) and for New Zealand in WW 1.

Father      Joseph Benton Lucas born May 1854 Warwickshire England, died Beaufort West, Western Cape,  South Africa 18/06/1897

Mother       Phoebe Williams White born abt 1860, died Western Cape South Africa 1901

Brother.    William Benton Lucas born 1880

Sister      Eliza Josephine Lucas

Sister       Alice Phoebe Lucas

Where does one find info for people in South Africa? I have tried NAAIRS(?) and the above is all I got. I couldn't figure out where or who to go to next.

Regards,

Allyn Hansen
