Hi Heypeg,
Would love to see a pic of Harold & co.  My dad died nearly two years ago but remembered various stuff about Buckley Hall.  I'll have to send for the history - thanks for the info.

Hi,
If your rellies lived in Barnwood, they would in all probability have been buried in Coney Hill Cemetery.  There is also a Crematorium there, so any ashes would probably have been scattered there.  If they were church-goers, they may have been buried in the churchyard at St. Lawrence, Barnwood.

I have traced my aunt, Sarah Brennan, to Hollymount in the mid-30's: the Catholic Society were very helpful.  However, I don't know what happened to her: she was still in there at the age of 14, when most young people were starting work.  The family story is that she was 'adopted' and went to Ireland - got married and went to the USA.  My father lost all contact with her after the '40's, so she is one of our 'blank walls'.
Does anyone remember a Sarah Brennan?

Hi,
What you need to look at is the Middlesex County Times for that period: the St. Bernard's Emergency Hospital must have stood on what is now Ealing Hospital along the Uxbridge Road, in Southall.
Hope you find what you're looking for.

I've also had a look at this and used the book option.  Found a few Verall's which are further back from my bunch, but I may eventually find the link.  Haven't looked through it all, so still searching for my Cornwell's. :)

Wasn't that purple dye invented by a guy named Perkins, who lived in Greenford?

I think the place you need is St. Bernard's, Uxbridge Road, Southall.  I remember walking through some of the corridors there once, going for an interview for the New Ealing Hospital which was built next door.  Evidently, at one time it was a 'flagship' for humane treatment of it's residents.
(It was also used for some filming of 'Porridge')

The Common Room / Re: What IS it that makes parents have multiple baptisms...?

Sometimes parents could only receive 'Parish Relief' - a kind of 'Dole payment' from the Parish Council if all the family were baptised.  This could be one of many reasons....  Baptism is free!

Sorry, I don't think my previous message linked with the pic.
