Dear Jean,
I hope that you may be able to help me find a few headstones in Benholm. I am looking for Alexander Gardner married Elizabeth Lermond, and had two sons Alexander born 1829, and George Folerton Carnegie Gardner born 1830. Both sons came to Australia, Alexander in 1852, and George in 1855.
They are both listed as farmers from Benholm on shipping records. Their father was alive in November 1852, but dead by January 1855. Both parents lived in Montrose in 1852. Elizabeth was still living their, widowed, in 1855. This comes from shipping records of the two brothers.
An uncle is visiting the area next month from Australia, and we are hoping to find him a few headstones to visit in the area!
Any idea if there are any other Carnegie-Gardner's (possible hypenated surname) in the area.
Thanks very much, Jenny.
