My ancestor Charles Hutton b 1818 in Musselburgh, died 1863 in Alloa, with Erskine listed as his mother, although his birth mother was Dobson. There may be some link given relatively scarce surnames and at same period.

A direct ancestor of mine, Charles Hutton died in Alloa in 1863. His death cert by a neighbour lists his mother as Erskine although his birth mother was Dobson. There may be a good reason that Erskine is listed and as he was born in 1818 it may well be something to do with this Erskine line in the area.
