That's great! The Holloway family you mention are my gr x 2 Grandfather James Holloway and family (John is my great Grandfather) . Are any houses still there ? Perhaps the Evans and Holloway family were related? They seemed to live in canal st for some time

I have a photo of James at his coal business in Oldbury with horse and cart. I assume that that must have been nearby.

Many thanks

Bellou,

When I see my Aunt I will ask if Holloways are related but are not aware at this stage. When next in the area I will also look to see if any premises remain but feel they must have been demolished many years ago. I would assume (and there's the danger ) that the coal business would have been very close more than likely alongside the canal.

Can anyone identify where this could be ? My family came from Oldbury and were canal boatmen and lived in Oldbury . My Gr x 2 Grandfather James Hollway (b1852) had a Canal boat coal business there.

If anyone is able to improve it - all the better ?

Thanks

Bellou :) :)

I may not be able to add much but perhaps can confirm some detail. The Canal Side in question must be the one referred to as being by Simpson Street as Pinfold Street (which is still there) runs off Simpson. Please bear with me.

I am trying to find details of my Aunt's family and using the 1881 Census, as others have, and have located her Grandfather Edward Evans and family at No: 8 Canal Side. James Holloway (28)- Boatman, Eliza (29),James (5), John (4) and Isaac (2) are listed at No:7 and if you scroll through a few "Previous Households" then details of families in Pinfold Street are seen. A map that I have seen on the net  for Pinfold Street shows without much detail what looks like a small stretch of enclosed canal coming almost to Pinfold Street itself.

The glorious ToysRUs site can now be forgotten as Pinfold Street remains just below Oldbury Town Centre. Hope the additional Holloway names mean something to you.
