Sussex Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 Sussex Census Popes
« on: Friday 30 September 05 17:50 BST (UK)  »
Hello Chris / Andrea,

Apologies that I haven't replied or thanked you for your research on my Pope family, I'm afraid I haven't been logged on for some time.

However, a big thank you!

Sivyer Pope was my GG Grandfather, he was in Hurst Green at the time, on his way to Maidstone where he spent the rest of his days.

Collins Pope was his brother, I don't know much about him so this info is much appreciated, I will also pass the information on to his ancestor who I am sharing my research findings with.

Thanks again,
Karen Pope

« on: Monday 13 December 04 19:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

Please could somebody kindly look for the following people on the 1841 census, as they may be in the  Cranbrook area:

Samuel Pope (weaver, b. Kent, poss. Faversham?)
Charlotte Pope (nee Bailey, from Ewhurst, Sussex)
Collins Pope (b. 1813, christened in Cranbrook).

Many thanks in advance for your help,
best wishes

Jane
Thanks for this, it's very interesting!  It is indeed the same Alice Pope that I have in my tree - the date/place of birth is the same.
I shall pass this onto a distant relatives of mine, Darrell Pope, who is directly linked to that side of the family.
Thanks again - do keep me posted if you find any further information!

Hi Roger,
Many thanks for looking!  I think I'll never be able to trace the elusive Samuel Pope... sometimes I wish that my ancestors were richer, then tracing them would be a lot easier!

Jane: indeed I do have ancestors in Dorking, these are in the line of Popes descended from Collin (mentioned in my earlier e-mail).  Names so far are: Ellen (b. 1879), James Thomas (1880), George (1882), Mary Ann (1884), Robert (1886), Alfred (1888), Ethel (1889), Susan (1891), and William John (1893).  They were all born in Tunbridge Wells, but I believe moved to Dorking (many of them were married in Dorking, and also had children born there).

Hope this has proved useful - and thanks again,

Karen Pope

Sussex Completed Lookup Requests / Pope - 1841/1851 Lookup Request pls!

Hello all,
Please could somebody kindly do a lookup for me - I'm a bit stuck with my Popes of Sussex!  ???
I'm looking for a Samuel Pope and his wife Charlotte, who I believe to be in either Ewhurst (where they married in 1810, their first son, Sivyer, was born there in 1811), or Burwash (where their second son, Collin(s), was married in 1845, age 27).  Unfortunately I don't have much more information to go on, other than Samuel was originally from Kent (Faversham) and he was a weaver.
Any help you could offer would be very much appreciated.  I know the information I have is rather sketchy, so if this is too much of a tall order please do let me know!
many thanks
Karen Pope
