Dunbartonshire / Pollock family New Kilpatrick
« on: Thursday 25 September 14 15:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am trying to track down James Pollock.  He appears on the 1861 census with his wife Bridget and their 4 children as living in knightswood Row, New Kilpatrick.  He is 36, born in Ayrshire in 1825.  Bridget is 29. Bridget's maiden name was Eccles/Eckles and she sometimes calls herself Elizabeth. Bridget turns up again in 1881 calling herself Elizabeth Eccles and living in Govan with 2 of her daughters.  I cannot find any record of James, alive or dead after 1861.  Bridget's final child is born in 1869 and is classed as illegitimate.  I would be grateful for any help and information.  Thanks

Many of my relatives have the same address listed for their marriages.  Apparently it cost more to get married if the couple gave separate addresses so most got round it by giving the same address.

Lanarkshire / Interpreting death certificate
« on: Friday 09 December 05 21:32 GMT (UK)  »
I have obtained some death certificates from the 1880s and 1890s via the Scotlandspeople site.  Some have been certified by a doctor and others say dispensary patient underneath the cause of death.
I am assuming they were not in a financial position to call a doctor.

Can anyone provide any info about these dispensaries or direct me to a relavant book or website.

Thanks
Angela

Hi

I'm looking for info about my great grandmother and her family.

her name was Ellen Eccles Pollock, born 1869 or 1870.  daughter of James Pollock and Bridget Eccles or Ferrie.  Sister of Robert, Susan and Elizabeth.
She married in 1890 and is on the 1891 and 1901 census'.  there is no info on the 1881 or 1871 census@

However I can't find any record of her birth or those of her siblings. I also can't locate her father's death info but I know he was deceased at the time of her marriage.

i would be grateful for any help about the family or where to look next for information.

Thanks

Lanarkshire / Re: Brown St, Glasgow

Hi

I know I'm a bit late replying to your post but I just joined the site today!
From reading your family details I think the Brown Street you are looking for would be the Brown St in Anderston.  It is beside the River Clyde and at that time the Clyde was full of shipyards and docks.  Many residents were working in the Merchant Navy or in the shipyards.
Brown St is still in Anderston.  It runs from Argyle St at the Ministry of Defence office to the Broomielaw (Clyde St).  Today there are no tenements or houses just offices and small warehouses.
Hope this helps

Angela
