Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Re: William Elliott
« on: Sunday 13 April 14 02:05 BST (UK)  »
when William died in 1914 his eldest daughter e wills (formerly Elliott) was the informant.
On Ethel birth certificate shows William Elliott as father and Sarah Jane Elliott (formerly Jones) as mother. i suspect that he was still married when he and Sarah had the first 2 children, but who to, is a mystery. Believe she must of died just before they got married. They got married at the register office in Birmingham. I did recall  an earlier marriage certificate of a William and Sarah but shows that he was a draper and his father a john Elliott who was a cattle dealer, didn't follow any further on that one.
Don't have a birth certificate for Willard, know he was born in 1891 and married to a Kathy Edwards in Dec 1919.
Cheers

???Don't believe it a different women, but it could be a possibility. All the information I have certainly points to these two.
Haven't got any details on the first wife or children, where would I start to look?

In the 1891 census shows that Sarah is married age 24 and William age 28, I presumed they are married to each other. Also the 1891 census says his birth year is 1863. Now on their marriage certificate in 1896 his age states as 40 years and hes a widower. now the 2 children born out of wedlock,  On his marriage certificate and her marriage certificate they are both the  Elliott surname. I have asked the question do you need any evidence to prove you are a widower when you remarry?
Was he just a widower one day and got married the next

Thanks for your interest. I believe the marriage of William and Sarah Jane is correct, on the marriage certificate shows her father as Henry Jones who we have traced to Shropshire. Sarahs sister Mary Elizabeth  Dearden (Jones) looked after my Grandmother Eleanor Elsie Elliott after sarah died in 1911.

His late father also William was a commercial traveller. it shows that he was a widower at the time of this marriage. I have located all the family to liverpool, siblings etc via the 1911, 1901 and 1891 census. in these census, states he was born southwark London. Unable to locate anything on him prior to 1891,would like some assistance with where his family were. His address in the 1891 census shows 19 bright terrace guildford street Aston Aston manor. In the 1901 census his address was 217 new john street west Birmingham. Also his age Dob 1863 in the census are different to his marriage certificate When William died in 1914 his age shows as 53 years! so am stuck with where to look next, any help would be appreciated
