Glamorganshire / Re: Thelma Harry 1913
« on: Thursday 17 July 14 20:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi
apologies if this is covering old ground from a previous thread?
Have you seen the British Army Service record on FindMyPast for Alfred James Harry, who lists his father as George Harry, 15 Corporation Street, Penydarren Merthyr; and younger brothers, Alfred Edward and George Henry.
(He is the same man who marries Susannah Jessie Jones in Merthyr on April 4th 1911, as he lists the same home address and fathers name).

Mar Mnkly

Yes, thank you . I have this info. :)
Im quite sure Thelma is not Alfred's child, just a coincidence with the Harry/Finn parentage.

Thank you. Yes, that looks likely. There were a number of Harry's in the area. I believe my great grandfather's brothers lived there also, so Henry (common family name) was no doubt a cousin the my Grandfather Alfred.
But The Finn connection....hmm.....I wonder Mary has any connection to my Finns....

Thank you again  :)

Glamorganshire / Thelma Harry 1913

Researching my Grandfather Alfred James Harry, born Merthyr Tidfil  1889.
He later brought up his family in Liverpool, my mother was his youngers daughter. He wife was Ellen Finn from Dublin (b 1888) although no record of their marriage has come to light, so they probably didn't legally marry. ( I have another thread about Alfred's previous marriage, so please no need to go over old ground),
However, a friend pointed out a birth record she found on BMD for a Thelma Harry, born Merthyr 1913, mothers maiden name Finn.
Seems a huge coincidence a Harry/Finn baby in Merthyr?? But should Thelma prove to be Alfred and Ellen's child it would mean they were together almost 10 yearlier than previously believed.
Other than purchasing Thelma's birth certificate, is there any other way of find out her true parentage please? Ancestry.co hasn't helped any.

Flintshire Lookup Requests / Re: Flintshire birth/ baptism look up
« on: Friday 31 January 14 19:34 GMT (UK)  »
just to update this thread. I purchased the birth certificate that seemed the likely match....(William Thomas Roberts
June q, 1877, St Asaph, 11b 392)

but it was not my William.

I also purchased the marriage cert (Sept q, 1875, St Asaph, 11b 500 with Daniel Roberts and Anne Williams)  This seems likely to be my Great Grandparents.

The GRO have carried out two searches on my behalf to find a record of William Thomas Roberts between 1870 and 1880 but they were unable to find one whose parents were Daniel and Anne.

Do you think its worth another shot to ask them to search for his birth just using his mothers name? If he was illegitimate will it say so?

Hi everyone. I haven't been on these boards for a while, but wanted to share my good news with you all. I have finally managed to trace my Grandfather! With the help of a few lovely people off this board and a couple of internet forums I had found him (or what I believed to be him) on the 1881 census but was then unable to place him until his marriage in 1905. Lots of possibilities, but nothing definite......until last week when my local paper released newspapers from 1890-1910 to view online. I finally found a report...well...3 actually naming him and giving his occupation and address.....so at last I had my man!
I want to thank everyone who has helped me here on the boards and on PM......your help has been invaluable.......I'm so happy to have found 'Taid' at last x

on his 1905 marriage entry Daniel is listed as a carpenter whereas on the 1915 one (to my grandma) Daniel is listed as a general labourer. we are certain this is our William in both cases as he actually married sisters. also, we have found two entries on the parish register for the 1905 marriage, one says he is a batchelor, the other says he is a widower.
the 1905 marriage took place in yorkshire.
the 1915 marriage in St Asaph.......the home address at that time is familiar to us. His father Daniel is down as deceased.

tracing William on the 1901 census is the sticking point. there are a number of possibilities. we have no idea if his is married, what his profession was or where in the country he was. there are many William Roberts,s in the Abergele/Rhyl area that could be him, and lots in the north west of England too...a good few which we have found have strong links with north wales.

???? :( :-\

Hi Carol

I have my grandfathers fathers name off the marriage certificate. on entries we have found for him on various census and his wedding certs (he was married at least twice) make it difficult to tell his correct age, but it is most likely he was born about 1873. his father was Daniel. we have what seems a good match in Rhyl on the next two census.....but also a good match in Abergele. Both Williams have brothers and or sisters that share 'family' names so that doesnt help! I have no idea what his mother was called for sure so  when looking for Daniels marriage......I dont know who im looking for. I have gone with the Rhyl family, parents Daniel and Ann. The Abergele family are Daniel and Sarah.
William could be anywhere by 1901......so many William Roberts around any number of whom could be him. I just dont know how to connect what i do know about him since 1905 with his life before that.
