Is there anyone who you want me to look up information about. If you give me some dates and names if will try if i get the chance.Only trouble is im up there for a week and you know what scottish hospitality is like. You spend all the time visiting and having a great time and it flies by.Hope to get time to do my own research. Had a reply off my cousin and she said that the donald banks who was born in 1825,had a sister margaret. She thinks the next Donald banks was her son and was brought up by his grandparents.so donald banks 1825 is his uncle but james banks is his grandfather. Also her great grandmother was a Crear Banks so got to be same family  .

Thanks a million, still not 100 per cent sure have e mailed another cousin who lives in Huna a few miles from John O groats and see if this is whats shes found. If correct i might have gone back 2 more generations.I know that she had a donald banks married to a Margaret Calder as one of her options. You probably guessed that im named after Donald banks.I live in south Wales. All my fathers family are welsh and my mothers scottish. They met whe my father was posted to wick in the war. They were married in wick parish church and was older sister was born in wick. They then moved to south wales.

Edward, robert ,walter, james, and phillip were the names of the fathers of your ancestor who adopted them as surnames as english tax inspectors came to Wales to register people. We had no surnames. The inspectors were english speaking and often spelt them in correctly.Hence my names was spelt Rees not Rhys,Ioan became jones,Dafydd davies etc.My daughter want to spelt it the proper way and i hope she does.

my great grandfather donald banks was born in 1855 in hunspow. All i know is his father was donald banks. My aunt thinks his wife was margaret banks but not sure.So dont know if that donald banks you mention is the correct one.Probably is as village is correct and date would be about right. My grandfathers brother was james banks.Ive seen your messages on caithness geneology board but i cant reply as it doesnt for some reason except hot mail.Im going up to caithness at the end of july to stay in my cousins. The croft in hunspow is still there in ruins. Thanks anyway.Any connection to you at all.
