Lancashire / Re: George ROBERTS, Leics, Ireland, India, Lancashire

Hello Dan,  thanks for reaching out.

Since posting my request I have a) found a lot more on the India office records,(e.g. George & Hannah had a son born 1861 and Hannah died in childbirth in India in 1874 along with their 2nd son)
b) found a relation of Clara Roberts (my great grandmother's sister, also by Hannah) and
c) started building the family tree on mundia.com which I am happy to invite you to join.

I did not know that either of the surviving daughters who returned to UK with George and Annie had families of their own.  Would love to know more.  I also have some photos of Hannah & George I could share.

Happy Lunar New Year (I can hear a lion dance going on outside) - Fiona

Does anyone have info /family link to:

George Roberts, born 1840, Melton Mowbray, parents Henry and Frances

Served as Armourer Sergeant, 40th Regt of Foot in Ireland 1869 - 1871 or thereabouts then to India 1871.

First wife:  Anna May or May Anna Sands - two children Clara and Ada born Ireland

Second wife:  Annie McLaren, 1884 in Madras, India - four children, Kate, Dora, Frederick and May

Returned to England +/- 1901     Died: West Derby /Lancashire 1913

I would like to know what he did in India i.e. did he remain with the South Lancashire Regiments (Prince of Wales Volunteers); if so did he remain an Armourer Sergeant?  Also, if any of my cousins are on this site, would love to make contact. - Fiona

That was fast.

I have no idea where Clara was born.  I know that both she and Ada married military men in India in the 1880s.  Ada is my Ggg Mother.

Family lore has it that Mary Anna /Anna Mary was in India but returned home when she became unwell.  It is possible too that her father was military.    That and her quick temper is all I have to go on. - Fiona

Ireland / Sands - Mary Anna or Anna Mary born 1847

I am trying to find information on my great, great grandmother Mary Anna  or Anna Mary Sands who was born in 1847, location in Ireland unknown.

She married, date unknown, George Roberts whose regiment, the 40th Regiment of Foot, was in Drogheda, Co Meath in 1869 and then in Richmond Barrack, Dublin from, I believe, 1870.

While in Ireland they had two daughters, Clara born 1870 and Ada born 1872 before George Roberts' regiment went to India.  I have a copy of Ada Roberts baptism record for 9 May 1872 for the parish of St Jude in Dublin.  I have found nothing on Clara.

Gggp Roberts remarried in India in 1884 and on the marriage record he is listed as a widower.  He was born in Melton Mowbray, England in 1840.

I would like to find information on Mary Anna's parents, place of birth, wedding date and/or death.

Any help greatly appreciated - thank you. Fiona

Hello there, I saw your post on the Sweet family - Richard Sweet was my great, great great grandfather!

I have been researching my Great Grandfather William Henry Sweet who was Richard's daughter Rebecca's grandson.

Would love to share family info if you are interested.
