I have just found this site by accident so it might be obsolete by nowI too was born in the prefabs on Erlmere Dr .I lived there until I was 13 in 1962.I too planted those plants at Grand lodge.I believe Prince Phillip was there and a photo was in the newspaper.I went to school at Parkside with Miss Walton as headmistress. It's a shame we didn't appreciate it at the time having Heaton park as our playground. We moved to Riverdale Rd in Blackley.I remember some of the names mentioned in the chats.Yes the prefabs were very modern in their structure, especially on the inside. We used to have a huge bonfire in the field on Erlmere dr every Nov 5th.My mother worked at Nellie and Herman's shop in the evenings.
The lake was originally a Racetrack for horses when the park was privately owned by Lord Heaton or whatever his name was.The paddling pool had a little beach with it.The old school was by St Margarets.
My brother Ian went there for a year or two ,then to Parkside which opened in 1952.I went there in 1953.
then to Cheetham Secondary. Jean
