London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Purkins in Marylebone
« on: Wednesday 07 April 10 20:46 BST (UK)  »
Hello Barbara,
I know this is an older post, but I'm hoping to connect with you.
I have been trying to trace my g-grandfather, Arthur Owen Lomer, and suspect that his name changed. Your Arthur Owen Purkins b 1853 Marylebone, came to my attention and the more I look at the family - the more I believe he may have changed his name to Lomer.
You state that William's second wife's maiden name was Lomer. Could I ask if this is documented? If so, it may be another dot on the connection line.
Thanks!
Karen

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 Census Lookup

Hi,

We just looked at the directories of the area in 1841 and it looks like he was most probibly living at the following address:

Prockter, George:  Cotton Spinner :  H. Cheetham Street, Rochdale.

Would it be possible?

Thanks,
Karen

hi Karen

George is not in Stocks Street in 1841.
Without an index, it would mean ploughing through the discs.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1841 Census Lookup
« on: Friday 10 March 06 23:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Because the 1851 census for the Manchester area is limited because of water damage, I'm afraid I don't have my man's details then.  But, in 1861, his details were:

George Prockter (appears as Procter on the census), Lodger, Widower, Age 48, Cotton Broker, Born in Rochdale, Lancashire.
The address is:  91 Stocks Street, Cheetham, Manchester.

He was in Cheetham until his death in 1882.

I would really appreciate knowing how his family was made up in 1841.  I'm trying to track down some info on his son from his second marriage.

Thanks so much!
Karen

Lancashire / Prockter Family
« on: Wednesday 15 June 05 03:23 BST (UK)  »
More and more info is being added to the web - it's fantastic.  However, going forward from the web material is VERY difficult.  I'm trying to locate any living relatives of this family and I'm having lots of trouble.  This is the info I've collected so far:

1881 Census
Dwelling                        1 The Grove Halliwell Lane
Census Place                Cheetham, Lancashire, England

George PROCKTER         Head      W     Male    68     Rochdale, Cotton Broker
Elizabeth H. PROCKTER  Daur In Law  W  F     50     Crumpsall
(nee: Mayor, widow of Thomas Grimshaw)
George Harold           Son (Grand)       Male     12        Manchester
Frederick Malcolm   Son (Grand)        Male         9        Manchester

Neither Frederick or George are on the 1891 or 1901, that I can see.  They both spent time at sea and I'm assuming that's where they were.

Frederick Malcolm, AMIMechE, mechanical engineer was living at 45 Seymour Grove, Old Trafford in 1920.  In the 1929 Directory, only Mrs Sarah Ann Prockter is living at that address.  Frederick was still living... somewhere as he was still in bankruptcy in 1933.

George Harold went on to have a very colourful career in the RNR and later with Cunard Shipping as Chief Engineer.  The last address that I have for him is 25 or 29 Barrett Rd, Birkdale in the early 20s.  He was married to Pauline C. Prockter (formerly McEvoy - her mother lives in Elizabeth, New York, USA and she was USA born).  I don't have any info on children.

If anyone is tracing this line and/or can offer any assistance or advice, I would welcome your input.

Regards,
Karen
