Lanarkshire / Re: Ellen Tipping and Daniel McNally

Thank you EV, I was aware of 1 or 2 sons that died as infants either in Scotland or on the trip over.  I did not know his name (Hugh).      What exactly is Penicuik?   A borough or township?

Sancti, that second address you post from 1851......is it the McNally family (Daniel's parents) or the Tipping family ?    And would you happen to know if any of these buildings still stand.    Someday I'd like to travel to Ireland & Scotland and I'd like to see this old neighborhood.

Are either of you related to these folks?

Thanks very much for your help.

Lanarkshire / Ellen Tipping and Daniel McNally

Ellen Tipping and Daniel McNally were my Great Grandparents on my mother's father's side.    They were married in St Margaret's Catholic Church in Airdrie, Scotland in 1869 before coming to America in the late 1870's or very early 1880's.   I have also seen Ellen's name as Tippen.   Once in America they lived in Dunbar, Pennsylvania where they died days apart in 1887 or 1888 in what was known as the Russian Flu Epidemic.    They left 3 daughters all born in Scotland, named Katherine, Grace and Ellen (or Nellie) and 2 sons both born in the USA named Francis (my grandfather) and Joseph.   While in Scotland I believe they lived in a place called Monkland or New Monkland.    Their families came to Scotland from Ireland during the Potato Famine of the 1840's.    Ellen Tipping was born in Scotland of Irish parents in the 1840's.   Daniel McNally was born in the 1840's in Ireland.   I have also seen Daniel's name spelled as McAnalley.  Ellen Tipping had a brother named John who arrived in Pennsylvania years before Daniel and Ellen and it was he who adopted and raised 3 or 4 of the younger orphans when his sister died.    He ran a general store in Everson, Pennsylvania.   I am looking to connect with any distant relatives who might have record of Daniel or Ellen.  I do not have pictures of Daniel or Ellen but I do have pictures of the 5 children and their uncle John, Ellen's brother that I will try to attach
