Cork / Re: Patrick "Cruxy" Connor -shot New York 1922
« on: Wednesday 09 April 14 22:13 BST (UK)  »
I see that this is a very old thread, but I'm hoping my post finds it's way to you, corisande.

My great uncle, William Deasy, was one of the men killed based on Patrick O'Connor's information.  Before my grandfather, Jeremiah Deasy, died, I asked him how they found Patrick O'Connor in New York.  He told me that the IRA had agreements with all of the Irish social clubs to provide them with members' and visitors' names.  The IRA figured that Cruxy would soon get homesick and turn up at one of the clubs.  As it happens, he did just that.  I don't know which club -- possibly the NY Cork Association.

My grandfather also provided me with his own written recollection of the Ballycannon incident and Cruxy's role in it.  I would be more than happy to share this with you.

Cork / Re: Auxiliaries/Black and Tans/RIC reports - Skibbereen

I would be interested to know whether there are any RIC/Aux action reports, as well.  My great uncle, William Deasy (Parents: William Deasy, Mary Manley), was killed just outside of Cork City by the Black and Tans on 23 March 1921, along with 5 others.  The Ballycannon Memorial was erected in their memory, and they are all buried in the Republican Plot at St. Finbar's Cemetary.  I have some newspaper accounts, but would be interested to know more.

Thank you so much!  Can you recommend the best way to order the certificate from abroad?

Cork / Whitechurch, Cork Parish Registers - Manley/Flaherty
« on: Tuesday 08 April 14 17:33 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I'm hoping to find birth or marriage information about Margaret Flaherty (b. abt 1837) and Patrick Manley (abt 1848 - before 1901).  They were residents of Whitechurch, Cork, and had two children, Patrick Manley (1871-1954) and Mary Manley (1873-?).  Many thanks!

Many thanks

John Quinn is a bit of a mystery man.  On his death certificate, his parents are listed as Peter Quinn and Margaret Trainor, but his reported birth date (25 March 1870) doesn't seem to support this since Patrick Quinn (4 Aug 1870) was born just a few months later.

I appreciate the link to familysearch.com and will keep trying.

Yes, it is . . . John Quinn (b. 1870, d. 1 May 1936).  He emigrated to NY in Mar/April 1889.
