I have no idea what they were opening. When they first mentioned it I showed them pictures of this site saying FREE. That I had never had to put card details in. I just wanted Rootschat to be aware that there was something copying your site. I didn’t know how to do it. I also sent a message to I think technical. Regards Lizzy

I have been a member of rootschat for years and I am now in a family history group. I had so much good advice last week that I told the group about your site. They tried to join but they were being asked for a bank card. One member phoned her bank and they said it was a scam.

P.S
7 Church Lane Lowton is my Grandad Johns auntie.  My uncle once told me that John did not get on with his father so maybe he gave a different address for leaving the army.  Just a guess.

Its me Lizzy
Thank you all for what you have replied.  Thats more than I had this morning.  His father was David who was born in Milton and in 1921 was living at 10 Church Lane.
I will go through what you have sent me and see how I get on trying to understand it.  Actually I am at a family history meeting tomorrow and we have been asked to talk about a subject we are stuck on.  Grandad John was and still is my subject.
Again thank you all
Lizzy

World War One / Royal field Artillery WW1 Hyderabad India 1921

Good Morning All,
My request is regarding my Grandad John Unsworth born in 1895 in Lowton.
About 2006 as I knew nothing about him I messaged rootschat with a photo of his cap badge.  The badge was the Royal Field Artillery and I was told there were 5 John Unsworth.  I could not find out which he was so I put him on hold.  I have now found out more.  Out of the 5 I have eliminated 3.
38345, 92199, 32044. That leaves me with 2.  1227/690456 which the internet says his number must be West Lancashire, was a territorial and left for France Sept 1915.  The other 5682 who left for Egypt July 1915 was act corporal.
I have found in 1921, still in the army at the above Candy (Meanei) barracks.
I cannot find anything about which RFA is stationed in the 1920s at these barracks.  The census did not give details of his reg number.
Can anyone out there give me a little help of where I can find research or a clue to which John it could be out of the 2 left.
p.s there is another 1921 census for a John Unsworth who was stationed in Ireland.
Regards Lizzy

World War One / Help with visit to London
« on: Sunday 25 October 09 20:05 GMT (UK)  »
I am off to London next week and while I am there I wondered if it would be helpful to me to try and find out anything about my grandad.  He was in the Royal Artillery but there are 5 John Unsworths and the information on the cards are no help of which one is him. Is there anything I can find extra in London or would I just be wasting my time.  I was told his theatre of war was in the arab countries.  Any help you can give me of what to do in London to find out anything would be a god send.  Lizzy

Again I will have to close.  I will have to get in touch with my Uncle Freddy who is John's son and also joined the army as a cook and see what he can remember about his dad.  The trouble was, was Freddy was only 6 when his dad died.  You have been a great help to me.  Lizzy

OK I have downloaded the page from national archives.  There were five names but I have six cards on print.  I have to now figure them all out.  One of them says theatre of war Egypt.  I know my grandad was abroad.  So I will give that one a much more closer look.  Is it possible that there are other John Unsworths though that are not on this database?  Lizzy
