I am a new member and just noticed info on F E Smith, Lord Birkenhead. My father-in law, Alfred Smith Baker from Liverpool thought he was related to him in some way. We know of a Hannah Smith, born 1853 in Liverpool. She had two brothers, John Smith and William Smith. We wondered if descendants of these two could have a connection to F E Smith. A few of his relatives were given the name Smith as a middle name. His father was named William Smith Baker. Like you we cannot find proof but always feel there must be some truth in the story.
Perhaps my husband shares relatives with you also. I wonder if the name Hannah Smith rings a bell at all
