sam thompson 1843-1909 became landlord of the victoria vaults 1 water st in 1879and is recorded as such 1881 and 1891 census returns. in 1897 licence passed to john thompson. 1901 census shows sam as a fitter residing at 144 mersey rd.
later in the same year he became the landlord of the railway inn , sadler st , called the addled egg, situated on st helens gap railway. the junction was another railway hotel also called the ditton junction hotel on the main london liverpool line.
sam died in 1909 leaving jane ann 274 pounds 10 slillings .she became landlady until1912 when the brewery closed the pub paying ann 130 pounds compensation.james 1869-1920had the george hotelin1897in pitt st until his death where his 2nd wife elizabeth remained untin 1924.can find no connection with any other widnes pubs
