Hi

I'm the owner of the blog mentioned in the last post. I'm researching the Lucke family of Mayfield, as my 12 x great grandmother was Alice Lucke, daughter of Richard Lucke of Mayfield. She married Magnus Fowle, son of Gabriel Fowle of Southover. Richard had a brother Thomas who died in 1552, and I suspect that John Lucke who died in 1549 was another brother. I'd be really interested to link up with others researching this family, and to see any other will transcriptions. My most recent post about the Lucke can be seen here:

I can't help with your specific query but if you want to know about Thomas Wheatley Gibson's family tree, I can certainly help. He was the son of John Thomas Gibson, who was the son of Bowes John Gibson, who was the son of John Gibson (1699 - 1763) - who was my 6 x great grandfather (and I can go back two more generations from him).

If you want to know more about the earlier Gibson generations (and they're certainly an interesting bunch), you can read about them on my family history blog, 'Past Lives'. Just follow this link:

To contact me, leave a comment on the blog and I can send you further information - including wills, etc, if you need them.

In return, I'd be really interested to learn more about Thomas Wheatley, his family, and the other descendants of Bowes John Gibson.

Best wishes

Thanks! If you find out any more about the Yorkshire Mortimers, please let me know. I'm still trying to work out why my ancestor Joseph Holdsworth (grandson of John Mortimer of Shelf) moved down to Essex in the mid 18th century. Still a lot of work to do on this, I guess...

If anyone is still interested in researching the Mortimer family, they are in my family tree and I've written quite a bit about them on my blog (search under 'Mortimer'):

http://mprobb.wordpress.com/

John Mortimer of Shelf (1681 - 1742) was my 7 x great grandfather. I have a copy of his will, as well as a number of other family wills.

The Richard Mortimer mentioned in a post in this thread was John's son. The arrangement with James Dyson of Huddersfield makes sense - as the latter was his brother in law. Richard's brother John M junior died in Huddersfield in 1747 and his widow Mary later married James Dyson.

If you are still researching this line, I have information about the Gibson family going back to the beginning of the 18th century. Thomas Wheatley Gibson's father, Lt Colonel John Thomas Gibson, was the son of East India Company broker Bowes John Gibson, who was the younger brother of my 5 x great grandmother Elizabeth Gibson.

I've written about the Gibsons at my blog, Past Lives. Follow the link below and look under the 'Gibson' category, or use the search box. Happy to be contacted, too:

PS Thank you for the information about Thomas Wheatley Gibson's family, which I've found very helpful. Did you know the family was living in Jersey at the time of the 1861 census?
