Yorkshire (North Riding) / Re: HAWE/HAW Well, Yorkshire
« on: Wednesday 21 March 07 10:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi again Debby

Apologies for the VERY late reply.
At the moment I don't have a lot of filled out info on the Haw's, though chances are they are one and the same family from that era all living in Well, chances of having 2 families of the same surname in such a small area is tiny!
Do you have any more info on the Haw's you have?

Hi!
Yes I agree I sometimes think the same!!!
If we both have Haw's in our family trees then chances are we may havesome relations that match, as it seems the Haw line was in Well/Snape for generations!
The Walton line is my main line of research, although I have no Walton's that are directly married to a member of the Haw line!!!
If you could mail me the names of one or two of the Haw's and Walton's you have in your tree I could do a search through mine to see if there are any links?

Happy Hunting!!

Thanks all! I will have a look at all these websites and see if I can get an idea of who was there at the time!
Just something to put meat on the bone of my family tree :)

Occupation Interests / Re: Below stairs - life of a domestic servant

Hi Nadia, you don't say what period you are interested in but here are a couple of links found by googling!

They all make interesting reading
Suey

Sorry I did mean to put the dates in the first posting!
My ancestor was a servant from approx. 1830 to 1840; well, 1838 actually because she then got pregnant by another worker there and I have the feeling was subsequently dismissed :)

I'mnot sure on the standing of the family itself, though it was at a place called Esholt Hall, Esholt, Yorkshire.

Yorkshire (North Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 Lookup request William Hawe
« on: Saturday 15 April 06 13:49 BST (UK)  »
Thanks for those Sandra!

These Williams are definately a source of headaches at the moment, I have a William b. c1831 taking over James Hawe's farm, though I cannot figure out where he fits in to the rest of the Hawe family! He must be either the son of William snr (but he is classed as unmarried on the census?!) or William Snr's other brothers James or Christopher!
Arghhh these people :)

John is the iulligitimate son of James Hawe snr daughter Elizabeth, I know that much for definate!

Thanks for your help!

Brilliant thank you so much!
Her name was Elizabeth Haw/e who was born in 1815 in Well, Yorkshire.
I'm not sure at what age she started working there, I'm guessing around about 1830 when she was about 15 years old?
She left in 1838 because she became pregnant with another servants baby!
All I have to go on is that she was a "servant at Esholt Hall prior to her marriage"
(she ended up marrying the guy who got her pregnant!)

Hope this is enough to go on?

Thanka again :)

Hi all!

Yes, another query!
One of my ancestors worked as a servant in Esholt Hall, Esholt (about 8 miles North from Bradford.)
There are a few things I am a bit stuck on:
~How do I find out who owned the Hall when my ancestor was working there?
~Can I find out what her position was?

Any info at all would be greatly appreciated I am so so stick on this one :) !

Happy Hunting!

Yorkshire (North Riding) Lookup Requests / 1841 Lookup request William Hawe
« on: Thursday 13 April 06 13:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

If anybody could look up someone for me in the 1841 census and 1851 census it would be greatly appreciated :)

William Hawe b. 1809 Well(or Snape) Yorkshire
Parents James Hawe and Isabella Hawe.

He died in 1855 but I'm trying to establish if he married and had any children.
I don't have alot of information, so even if there is a rough idea that would be useful too!
He may have a son also called William born c.1831 if that helps!

Regards and Happy Hunting!

Nadia
