This is what I know of the dentist in Streatham. I know where he fits in to the family of Rev. Nicholas Mill too.
"Meanwhile Thomas Mill, born 1801, and his wife Mary were also raising a family in London but their babies, three sons and a daughter, were all baptised in Devon by Thomas Harrison Valletort Mill.(Brother of Rev. Nicholas Mill) Thomas Mill was described at the time of his marriage in 1826 as “Gentleman, of Bermondsey, Surrey” but in Pigot’s Trade Directory for London 1833-34, under Physicians and Surgeons, it states “Thomas Mill (and dentist) 39 Bridgehouse Place”.
He soon moved to property at 74 Newington Causeway, Southwark where he remained until his death in 1876. He was joined in the practice by his eldest son, Thomas George Mill, born 1828, and by his second son, Lewis Hole Mill, born 1830. They expanded the business into the adjoining 76 Newington Causeway. Lewis died at the age of 40 from phthisis,15 a progressive wasting disease, specifically pulmonary tuberculosis, apparently quite common in those in the dentistry profession, at that time. Thomas Mill, at his death in 1876, left all his real and personal estate to his daughter Mary Eliza Baker, the business by then being in the hands of Thomas George Mill. In his will proved in 1889, Thomas George left everything to his eldest son Julian Thomas Mill. It is interesting to note that he mentions “my estate at Gregory’s Langdon in the Parish of Littleham in the County of Devon” showing that the land and the West Country connections were still maintained, as was the name of his great grandmother Julian. Hi,
I am the great great grandaughter of Rev. Nicholas Mill of Littleham. You won't find him in Crockford's it doesn't go back far enough. I was unable to find a direct link as there are several people with the name John Mill in the West Putford records. Nicholas Mill, father of the Rev. Nicholas Mill, was the son of John Mill and Mary Cory born in 1723. I would be interested to know of your research and connection.
Best wishes
