Some weeks ago I got a postcard dated 1913 of a view of the Island Road  showing  a view across the river Slaney  of Roches Maltings  Stores then M.J. Whelans pub < where I was born>  then The CBS school  then the shop where Pat McCann had his work shop in the 1950s at the front of John Brynes yard  the O Riellys house  then the Stephens  ?  house Then the house of Sonny Grace the blacksmith then the River Lane The last 3 families lived in these 3 houses in the 1950s and 60s. Some time after the post card was photo was taken my Grandfather M. J.Whelan built a workshop on the riverbank  and that was the end of this view of the Island road. If you or anybody else  would like to have a picture of this  you are well come to send me an e mail at *  and I shall send you one

there is a swaine/swane family still living at Ballycarney  I used to know a fred swaine in the early 60"s. they live

at  Ballingale on the Ballycarney to clohamon road. I would  inquire at the ballycarney inn <pub>, they are nice people there and they might be able to help you.  If they confirm the family is there , just send the sweine/swane family a nice note with your enquiry leaving them a contact number.  What have you got to lose by doing so. There is a church of ireland parish church at ballycarney, they may have some information . Bunclody is about 4 miles from Ballycarney.

If you look up the Sinn  Fein easter commeration parade in Enniscorthy , you will see the oration taking place at the grave of Pat and George Keegan. I think that Georges sister Mrs  Nolan lived at Ballybuckley , Bree, co. wexford.  Her obituary was in The Echo about 2 months ago. I believe some of her children still live in Ballybuckley. Regards John Whelan.

Patrick keegan was Georges father, he was involved in the Old IRA , i am led to believe.  They were  was a very strong  Nationalist family. Both are buried in St Marys  Cemetery. George had a massive funeral so you should look up the local newspapers reports. There is a memorial at the junction of Irish Steet and Island road in  memory of George I think. I would think  that if you put a notice in a local paper with a contact number, you  might get get some interesting information. What have you got to lose by trying that idea?  In 2016 it will be 100 years since Enniscorthy came out in support of the Easter Rising see  if the organisation of this  celebration can help you. I  think that Georges sister married a chap named Pierce Nolan. Best of luck. John Whelan formerly Island Road.

There was a  carpenter named pat  mc cann who had a workshop in the island road who used to live in st johns..I think that he had two sons. The shop was  next to the boys club formerly the old  CBS school. Your best bet would to try an notice in the local Enniscorthy papers i.e. The  Enniscorthy Echo or The Enniscorthy Guardian with a contact number for people to get in touch with  you.  If you do this you may strike lucky, it may save you a lot  of time. What have you got lose by doing so ?. Best of luck.  John Whelan formerly of Island Road

My name is John Whelan formerly of Enniscorthy.  Elizabeth Ralph was my grand mother, she died in1957, I believe. If you can give me an address I shall send you a list of her children names and whom they married , and most of her grand children names and addresses. Looking forward to hearing from you, I have often wondered about where she came from, any information about her and her family i shall put in my own family history. I do know that she married a second time to a Mr Tom Walsh, he died in the early 1950s.
