New Zealand Completed Requests / laurences of inglewood north island
« on: Tuesday 12 December 06 20:24 GMT (UK)  »
Please can someone in North Island help me with The Laurences of Inglewood, my ancestors who emigrated mid 1800's from Salehurst, East Sussex, England. I know that Mrs Margaret Poletti from Papabura wrote a book of that title, as she is also descended from this family, and she kindly shipped a copy (returned I think 2005) to my cousin David in Battle.

I would like to buy a copy of this publication as it is a missing link in my research, which goes back to mid 1700's at present. Any info on the Laurence family will be very gratefully received. :)

Merry xmas to all Laurences in New Zealand and a happy new year.
Thankyou

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Reigate address lookup please
« on: Thursday 15 September 05 19:43 BST (UK)  »
On my Great Grandparents' wedding certificate my Great Grandfather's address is given as Sydney Cottage, Frenches Road, Redhill. I believe this should be Reigate. Can anyone help with a house number for this address as 1901 census does not recognise Sydney Cottage. Many thanks for your help.

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Walter Marks - Reigate - c1900
« on: Friday 09 September 05 19:23 BST (UK)  »

I have recently obtained my Great Grandparents marriage certificate and it would appear that one of the witnesses was Walter Marks (born in Reigate?). The groom's address was given as Sydney Cottage Frenches Road Redhill ( think this should be Reigate) and I think that Walter may have married the groom's sister Annie Mabel Wright. My Great Grandparents names were Sidney Arthur Wright and Florence Louise Laurence. They married at the parish church in Salehurst, East Sussex in 1906. Unfortunately Sidney died before the birth of his second daughter Stella Frances Beryl Wright in April 1912 and I believe his death was registered in Reigate in the first quarter of that year.
If anyone can shed some light on this for me I would be very grateful as, although one of 11 children, I am having great difficulties in tracing any of the Wright descendants. Thankyou for your time  :) Sue

Hi Sylviaann
Thankyou for your assistance in tracing Alfred Wright. Having looked on the marriage returns for 1847 it would appear that there is an Alfred Wright which shows born in
St Georges Sth, this could be Southwark and subsequent census returns have been incorrect in assuming the abbreviation was for Hanover Square. I think that the Harriett Susannah Potter you have traced is his wife as their first son was born c1870.

Many thanks for the info, I'll keep you posted. :)

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / The Wright Family - MAIDSTONE - 1901
« on: Wednesday 27 July 05 19:25 BST (UK)  »
I am seeking info on my great grandfather's family who I believe resided in Charles Street Maidstone in 1901. Harriett Susanna Wright is living at 26? Charles Street along with 6-7 of her youngest children. My Great Grandfather Sidney was, at this time in the Royal Engineers in South Africa during the Boer War and one of his brothers Herbert Walter Wright was in the police force in Dartford. Harriett's husband Alfred does not appear to be living with her at this time.

Anyone who can help solve the mystery of the missing Wrights or perhaps point me in the right direction would be most welcome, as my tree has come to a full stop at present, and there must be some living descendants somewhere.

Thank you for your time. :) Sue

Completed Census Requests / Re: Wrights in Lockton 1891
« on: Thursday 14 July 05 19:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi Caz

My, you have been very busy, and thankyou so much for the info you have provided.
I wonder if Alfred, like his younger brother Sidney, also went into the Boer War. Are there any records like Cwgc I could consult?
With regard to his possible death, I do know that there was a lot of TB during this time, although he could have been wounded in Boer War and shipped home on one of the many hospital ships. If it is him, how sad to die so young.
Ada Beatrice was indeed one of my relatives, a younger sister to my Great Grandfather Sidney. I Suppose it was inevitable that, amongst 11 children, there would be one at least who died in childhood.

Thankyou again for your kind assistance :) sue
