Not that it helps much but did find the shipping info.
I hope that it helps to round out the timeline for you.
James Fitzpatrick Kellard DOB Oct. 9 1905.
sending party: Southwark Guardians   In the charge of Mr. King
ship Minnedosa left port Liverpool July 22nd 1921   Arrival port Quebec:  July 30 1921
He was to be sent to Catholic Emigration Society, 1153 Wellington St. Ottawa.

Someone had to meet him on his return to England!
Perhaps they might have some information re: the receiving home
*Note: also look for his surname as "Fitzpatrick" as errors do happen.

*Adding- Found this!
Noted as being returned for medical reasons. A severe eye condition.
Fortunately he must have had some very good care once back in England!
Glad he was able to enjoy his games of chess!

Also a heart for his service ❤ as I write this on Remembrance Day
and a link to the previous post as well, locked & linked to this one.

Apologies, James, for not seeing this & welcoming you to Rootschat sooner!
Just found this request & sadly I cannot help you with much more...as you likely already found this.
Apparently not in Canada very long.  James F Kellard b. 1905  age 16. Sadly no shipping info...
Home Children Inspection Report- imm. yr. 1921. Sending party: Catholic Emigration Assoc.  Southwark Union
He actually was sent to Quebec, so may have entered from that port & have been slated to move on to another receiving home in Canada, as he was "detained" there.
The lad was sent back to England on The S.S. Melita Aug. 26 1921. I'll post more if I find anything.

Perhaps he dodged a worse life here, as although some did well & were treated like family, some were simply used as cheap labour, and others neglected & abused as well. Poppy for his war years!
Happy he had a good family life back in Eng. & that you got to meet him!  J.J.

Canada Resources / Re: Home Children to Canada
« on: Thursday 09 October 25 18:29 BST (UK)  »
This is a resource page for Home Children. Please do not post queries here...
Add queries to the appropriate board. Ireland, Canada, etc.
adding: The children from 1911 https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=894338

To add to Christopher's (R.I.P.) post above:
Many Irish born home children were directed to National Children's Homes & Orphanages
in Canada  - a small resource, but a few Home children from Ireland:

These were just a few from the March 13th arrival of 100...
scroll down for surnames- from the ship Tunisian 1911 / Party name Mr Merry
1911 Hespeler, Waterloo South Sub-Districts 1-25, Ontario, Canada
  George W Tebbes (super of institute/ wife-assistent -3 children/all b. England
on "Avenue Rd." actually 152 Guelph Ave.)

1921 Arthur Pullan from England- superintendant of institution / Orphanage on Guelph "st"
They do all say born Ontario...but they are sadly very, very hard to read!
Mostly because ::) the enumerator put more effort into useless repetition of street names
(None of which are numbered anyway)

some background on this one:
The Coombe Home / Orphanage 1905 -1947 152 Guelph Ave. Hespeler...
Corner Guelph Ave & Sheffield...received children from Smyly Home, Ireland 1905-1917
Ellen Smyly was a very good person...Looked after children & sent to Canada with good intentions
The Misses Smyly - Ellen's daughters also accompanied children there
Annie Macpherson (Merry) also sent children to Canada for Ellen Smyly

Report/ Inspection Card.  He was placed soon after arrival.
says  born Nov. 30 1916  #496839
with 9 placements in 4 yrs. - a sign he was not happy
(or they with him) But some of the homes were very brutal.
I have not seen that many placements in such a short period of time!
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01u0p/

 Census-  June 1,1931  transcribed as
"Cetrie" Nicholls b 1917 Wales age 14 years
listed as their "Servant"  Religion: C of England

adding: Looked for the Rootshat Homechild database entry, to add the url, as it isn't searchable online but none there?

Shankara: Please read my reply above in order to PM RosscoL. I usually do it myself, but since I just read through both pages again & know you hadn't...(or you'd have seen the connection on page one & the instructions above)  I'll leave you to it.  J.J.

Also, I'll link once again to the other post where you used your other Rootschat username

From my reply...with link to other post...which is also on previous page!
You appear to have a great deal of threads on this same topic, I think you should link them together, or let people know where you are in your searches...
which by this last reply on that thread sounds resolved
