Northumberland Lookup Requests / Search for Sgt A.F. (Alan Francis) Gardner
« on: Sunday 22 July 12 14:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi, as the good people on RootsChat helped us on prevouis research, I hope this will work again. I represent a Dutch heritage foundation (WO2GO) who are trying to re-tell the story of allied airmen who died on our island during WWII.  We remember them by making information boards annex memorials at the crash and writing a few books. We already had family and relatives coming to visit us from USA, Canada and the UK to officially unveil these boards.

On 2 December 1942 a Wellington bomber crashed near our coast (on the island Goree-Overflakkee where I live). Alle five crew died. One of them was:

Sgt A.F. (Alan Francis) Gardner

He was the son of Rodney Robert and Amy Kathleen Gardner; foster-son of Mrs. E. Wade, of North Harrow, Middlesex.

Is there anyone who can help me find his family?  If so, would you please contact me? If you happen to know living relatives, please remember that RootsChat cannot be used to publish these data. If so, please send me a personal message?

Thanks and regards,
Kees

Hello Jeannie and Carol,

To both of you: thank you! It would be great to get in contact with the relatives of Ernest Crowther.

Last weekend we had 44 (!) foreign relatives from a Halfiax crew visiting us for unveiling information panels annex memorial. Most of them from Canada. We organised a bus tour and presentations on Friday, the unveiling on Saturday (with officials from the embassy and air force of Canada, GB and the USA, Keep them Rolling with WWII vehicles, a flyby with WWII aircraft, bagpipes, English singer KAS and more) and on Sunday a church service.

This concluded a three year search....Our guests went home today, tired but very thankful.

Dear people on Rootschat, dear Carol,

Thank you very much on beforehand for trying to help our foundation in our search for relatives of the brave airmen who died on or near our island during WWII.

As a foundation we want to make sure those men are not forgotten nor why they fought and gave their lives. It's very hard for us over here in The Netherlands to find relatives after all these years. All help is welcome, so again thank you very much!

We will keep progress of the results via RootsChat and on our website www.wo2go.nl

Kind regards,
Kees
