Warwickshire / Coleshill Remembered: Drakeford butcher's shop
« on: Monday 10 September 12 17:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone!

I'm researching the Drakeford family of Coleshill and understand that there's a photo of their butcher's shop on page 72 of 'Coleshill Remembered: The Victorian and Edwardian Town' by Bruce Gascoigne and Colin Hayfield.

Is there anyone out there who has the book and would be willing to send me a scan of the photo?

Many thanks

Roger

Thanks Jennifer

I think this is a different branch of the Drakeford clan - the family appear in 1841 at Caroline Place, Shoreditch, Middlesex [HO107/709/bk1/fol39/p7]. By 1851 both parents had died and the children were scattered. Parents married St James Clerkenwell 16 Oct 1829 - William Drakeford and Elizabeth Sarah Williams.

Still of interest as I'm helping with a Drakeford one-name study.

Hi Ciderdrinker

That's brilliant - thank you. Plenty of leads for me to follow up.

I'm helping with a Drakeford one-name study and am concentrating on the Coleshill branch of the family at the moment. Very interested to see a Scottish connection as there is very little Drakeford activity there.

Hi Pauline

Thank you very much for all your help, which has got me off to a good start. I will be checking out all the standard sources - just wondered whether anyone else had done any work on the family already.

Hi Rosie!

Thank you for your help - brilliant!

I've registered with Scotland's People, paid my money and found the marriage in Langholm, Dumfries on 26 April 1881.

Yours very gratefully

Hi all!

Does anyone know what happened to the 11 children of Charles Drakeford and Mary Sophia Hewitt? Charles and Mary married in 1822 and their children were all baptised in Stepney as follows: Arthur 1820, Charles 1823, George, Sophia, Sarah & Frances 1829, Mary & Susan 1833, Elizabeth 1834, Thomas 1836 and Ellen Sophia 1841.

I'd like to know whether any of them married and had children, and any information about further descendants would be brilliant.

Thanks

Roger

Wiltshire / Malmesbury: Drakeford & Gosling
« on: Monday 09 July 12 17:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi all!
I'm having trouble tracking down an elusive wife.

In the 1881 census for Malmesbury, Wiltshire, Charles Drakeford appears as a grocer, unmarried, aged 27 (RG11/2025/78/7).

On 15 Nov 1883 his son Thomas Alexander Drakeford is born in Malmesbury. The mother is named as Jane Drakeford formerly Gosling (birth cert).

In 1884 Charles' wife Jane dies aged 29 and is buried in Malmesbury Abbey churchyard (GRO deaths index + MI).

I can't find a Drakeford/Gosling marriage in the GRO indexes for 1881-1884 and can't find an obvious candidate for this Jane Gosling in the censuses or GRO births index.

Any information or ideas would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Roger
