Hello again AVM.   Thanks for your reply.   I have to confess that I have not persued the will.   My life has been rather busy lately with the birth of twin grandchildren.   I had forgotton to follow through with your suggestion.  Will follow that trail now.   Thanks again.

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / What became of Angelina (or Angelika) Mansell
« on: Friday 07 September 12 19:57 BST (UK)  »
A distant relative was orphaned and placed in Leek Union Workhouse Staffordshire.   The year was 1901.   She was adopted by John and Ann Jane Mansell in July of that year aged about 9 months.   Her birth name was Martha Ann Shufflebotham (or Shufflebottom) but the Mansell's changed it to Angelina or Angelika Mansell.   The family emigrated to Wymore, Gage Nebraska U.S.A. in July 1907.   For some reason they returned to U.K to the same town - Smallthorne Staffs in May 1915.   Ann Jane died in 1925 and Angelina appears as the informant on the death certificate as A Mansell daughter.   After that I can find no trace of her.   John Mansell died in 1942 but she does not appear on the certificate this time.
I can find no suitable  marriage or death either in her original name or adopted name.   What became of her???   My gut feeling is that she went back to Wymore Nebraska where she had members of her adopted family.    I can't find a passenger list with her name on it, only an A Mansell in 1930 going to New York.
If any one has any ideas or can find anything about her I would be so grateful.

Hello Will, sorry I can't help you with your query.   My family did live in Brindley Ford in the 1930's and would surely have known them.   Alas they are all gone now.   I have a cousin who would have been a child at the time, she might know something.   I am hoping to visit her next month and will ask her.
Regards.   Jeanette

Hello UK1941.   Thanks for your further reply.   I based my estimate of Sarah Mayer's birth on census records which vary, so your information could well be right.      Jeanette

Hello Bykerlads.   Thankyou for answering my post.   In answer to your question, my main areas of search are in Staffordshire,  Cheshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire.   As I live in Scotland I have to do most research from a distance.   Thanks again, I will try to follow up your advice.     Jeanette

The Common Room / Look up for a will please. COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 19 February 12 16:35 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Common Room.
I believe there may be some one who does look ups for wills.   If so, could I ask a favour please?    I am trying to trace the adopted daughter of John Mansell.    In answer to my posting on Staffordshire site, it was suggested to me by another Roots Chatter that John may have left a will mentioning his adopted daughter.   This is the information I have.   First - John.   Born 1865, Crewe.   Married Ann Jane Fullwood in Liverpool 1899.   Family lived Unwin Street Smallthorne Stoke on Trent, apart from a spell in USA 1907 - 1915.   Ann Jane died 1925.   Adopted daughter appeared on the death certificate as the informant.   John died 25th May 1942.   1 Turnhurst Road Tunstall.   His occupation had been iron works puddler.   Informant was his brother William.
Adopted daughter.    Born 28th October 1900  Horton Biddulph Moor Staffs.    Her birth name was Martha Ann Shufflebotham.   The Mansell's called her Angelina or Angelica (or similar name) Mansell.   She was still using that name in 1925 on her adoptive mother's death certificate (A Mansell daughter).   Any information on a will giving a clue as to her name/whereabouts gladly received.  Or indeed any information about her.   Thanks in anticipation.      Jeanette
