So, unless FindMyPast is already one's preferred Geny provider, would it not be more economical to buy the CD's from SFHS direct?

I am beginning to have sneaking feeling that there will be great disappointment with this project.
I realise this is surmisal rather than fact, but are the new Ancestry parish records going to show anything that is not already available on FamilySearch or the Suffolk Family History Society?  Did those two august bodies not have access to all the parish records that were available?  If records were not kept, as I understand to be the case in some parishes around Orford at least, or if they are lost, where is the new stuff coming from?

Early 2025 HAS SLIPPED AWAY already! Will another year pass?  I am running out of time to get my brick walls sorted! Have they run out of funds? Script harder to read than they thought?  Strange that there is no news from either the Archive Ociffe or Ancestry.

Lake of Theydon Garnon Coopersale

I have noticed your old post in Rootschat and wonder if you could please help me.

My ancestor Sarah Lake 1778-1856 was one of seven children of William Lake and Ann Collins, who married at St. Bennet’s , Paul’s Wharf London in 1777 and lived at Weald Hall, probably farming there.  Wanting to trace the Lakes further back I find there are many Lakes in the area of Theydon Garnon, but I am unable to find a baptism of William that bears a date that makes sense. A family record written by a descendant in 1910, possibly unreliable, speaks also of a family called Stracey who were related to the Lakes. I have not found any marriage between these two names, though a couple of Lakes were given Stracey as a Christian name.

If you have come across William in your work on the Lakes, I would be very grateful to hear from you.

I am afraid it looks like another call to that distant, impenetrable, Record Office in Ipswich!

coombs,...If you had the same name as one of the mayors, then perhaps he would be a common ancestor to yourself and someone else living who has taken a y-DNA test? That would prove which was the appropriate baptism.  In fact, although the mayors would be way back beyond the number of generations for which autosomal DNA is reckoned normally to give a fruitful result, might you not possibly get a useful match that way too?

If you have a list of mayors and portmen for Orford in the 1600s and 1700s I would very much like to know how I could obtain a copy. I know some of my Bradys & Hollinsheds were at least portmen, but I have little idea in which years.

I had one or two notices from A. later on in 2024 inviting me to resubscribe at a discounted price and promising millions more records (not necessarily in Suffolk!) including the 1921 census.  On the great day all that came was the census,  which of course has been available for some time now on FindMyPast.  Frustrating, isn’t it?

Call me a sceptic, but I am wondering they intend to charge a premium to inspect these new records – when they come.

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Re: Orford/Iken/Chillesford Parish Registers, Suffolk - BRADY

Gobbit, You’ve hit the nail on the head.  This William will have been born shortly after the first William and Ann’s marriage.  This will put William snr’s birth year as 1716 or before, so perfectly possible to be grandson to Robert. The search for his parents is ongoing! Thanks.
